f**k the dentist........ rather poke my eye out with a rusty nail..... plus have a huge phobia of the place...

had an abscess not so long ago, washed my mouth out with salt water regularly and a good mouth wash... worked, as its gone.. a day or so of pain but still no dentist for me...

havnt been for ages and refuse to go.. not paying a fortune just for a check up etc... most are private around me and what best part of 30quid just to look in my mouth...

a braun oral b a day,, keeps the dentist away! ;)

Get a set of head phones and blast some good strong up beat music through you head, total distraction. Like all phobias the dreading is the problem, the pain is f**k all. quite often it's the noise of drills etc that people hate, hence the head phones, speak to the receptionist she'll sort it, it's not like it's that uncommon to have a dentist dread.
In my case it was the tax man i dreaded, far more painful.

I never used to mind it, then I had a route canal about 4 years ago. Dread going every time now, and to make things worse I have a toothache right now. I'm scared for my next appointment...

route canal sounds like some kind of shiney pointy hand tool getting poked under your teeth through the gums, f**k that the needle that numbs you is bad enough if they take a tooth out

Think it's £40 for the tooth out or £177 for a root canal. Guna try and deal with the pain til the weekend coz I can't afford to miss work either. I've tried lots of painkillers including morphine tablets and the only ones that helped were the red nurofen gel capsules. Give them a try

I used to hate the dentist as a kid but that's because he was a c**t

Doing work that never needed doing, I didn't go for years, traumatised

I changed dentists twice and had no problems at all since :ayatollah:

Re: The dreaded dentist

I hate the dentist. I had an absus. Which I left because I was scared to get it sorted. Booked an emergency appointment few days later. Took my filling out, refilled it and it became worse.
Next day I got admitted to the Gwent and my face had swollen and they put me on a drip for two nights as they feared that due to the swelling being so bad I may lose my sight.

Third day when it had gone down they took the tooth out. Took over an hour :(
I discharged myself cos we had Swansea away on the Sunday. Bellamy 1-0 :)

My advice is dont end up going through that.

Get it sorted. And no one is more scared of the dentist than me.

Madness i paid £16 quid odd this morning for two mins for some guy who looked like mowgli from jungle book to look in my mouth and tell me what i already knew while poking about with that needle thing they have picking away with that and his little mirror, then proceeded to write me a prescription and f**k off till next wendesday untill the swelling goes down  guess they gotta make money the more you visit

I would pull the thing out myself with pliers before i let it f**k my eyes sight up thats for sure, sounds nasty, i did tell the guy this morning can you take it out he said no as my normal dentist is away till next wendesday which im going back to see so in the meantime the swelling should have gone down by then.

When I was a kid they used to give you gas to take your teeth out or for fillings, I used to fecking hate that, would be rough after for hours.

Now I have no problems with injections to the gumbs, or whatever else they do, last work I had done was a bridge fitted, one and a half hours he was drilling and grinding and then I had to go back for it to be fitted a few days later with more grinding and drilling, but it was okay. :)

I guess I'm lucky that I haven't got a fear of the dentist. :ayatollah:

Same here Nobber, no fear of them. Like you I had gas many moons ago. I can still smell the stuff now if I think about it. Very sickly sweet smell. :sad7:

Strange story here but a true one.
A son-in law of mine was in a dentist chair.
He had had his injections etc, then the dentist said "I have to go out of the room a moment and I wont be long"
Anyway, what seemed like ages past and he waited and waited.
All of a sudden there were police at the surgery checking every room.
The dentist had phoned the police and told them he was committing suicide.
He was found dead in the cellar!
Weird at the time, but he still jokes his teeth are that bad, a dentist killed himself after looking at them. :laughing6:

Had a bad experience in the chair 20 years ago and haven't been since, total phobia of the place. But going to man up and have my first visit next week and then no doubt lots of treatment will be imminent!!!
