Flag/Banner=atmosphere?

Sun Feb 03, 2013 11:26 am

I messaged Annis yesterday to ask what the feeling and general opinion would be if Cardiff City had a club banner that could be passed from stand to stand during the matches and he asked me to put it out there to you guys to gauge opinion.

Ideas? Thoughts?

To get you started I was thinking something like a giant banner with the bluebird logo on it and underneath with the date of when Cardiff City was born as so to speak. I know its corny, but do you think something like this that could be passed from stand to stand during games would add anything to the atmosphere? Is it needed? Would it be wanted?

I think this idea has bee suggested before, but I dont know what the thoughts were.

If there is demand for it, what would it cost etc?

Sorry of this is repetition, but I think it would look awesome at a packed out stadium in the prem.

Cheers for your time.

Yeah, there was a thread relevant to this about a week or so ago.

As far as I can remember, the general feeling was most people would be willing to chip in for one, aslong as the supporters club was willing to keep a hold of it.

I'd more than happily donate :)

I thought we already had a giant flag? I haven't seen it since our Wembley appearance so what happened to it? :?

We already have one, but I'd happily contribute to a new one if it was kept organised.

Although Tan would probably insist in it being red

Cheers mate,

It seems there is quite a lot of interest.

At the risk of alienating a certain section...... might be cool if we had "Bluebirds born and bred.......but never dead!" (as a nod to the fact that whatever colour we are, we are still the bluebirds?

or Bluebirds born 1899........... re-born 2013........ ( a nod to the fact that we have pretty much been given a new lease of life since tan and his lot.(with a good old fashioned blue-bird on it).

Anyway, it probably needs a fans spokesperson to get it moving and at the risk of brown nosing anyone - do you think Annis, Carl or Gwyn or anyone else for that matter that has a lot of contacts.

Just thinking aloud here.

The stalinesque Malky pose was a great idea.

Be warned, you will have difficulty getting it into the stadium if it is excessively anti-rebrand. It feels like this flag will be driven by passionate fans BUT those same fans would have to embrace a bit of red to get it accepted.

Are we easy for this?

This will be an issue. IF the club do away with the Bluebird, we will not get this flag stored or passed around at the ground. Anyone willing to store it and take it to away games.

What about a flag that tries to celebrate the old and the new?

How about a massive red flag, but with a massive bluebird in the middle of it?

Re: Flag/Banner=atmosphere?

I think the negatives for it are:

a) the club seemed to only allow the last one to be passed around prior to kick off

b) as it was prior to kick off, there was a lot of spaces where by the flag wasn't passed around successfully and seemed to turn upside down on occasions

c) It would obstruct view of people during the match, and some people would not want this, as i'm sure your aware there are some miserable bugger's about, but if they've paid they have that right to moan if that is there wish.

d) We would want a blue one, but the club would no doubt disagree as it's not red... or if the old badge was used etc... or any slogans that would be deemed as "a protest against the current branding" (old badge, blue etc)

not trying to put a dampener on it, but just giving the problems it may face, anything to improve atmosphere is ok by me.

On the negative side....................what if Malky leaves we are gonna look like right tits passing a flag around with someone else's manager on it :malky:

I've got friends in cardiff who make banners if you can give me a size I can get it priced up!
Maybe they might have some options available so the flag does not completely block out the supporters view.

Your equation is wrong;

Standing Fans + Beer = Atmosphere

That sounds awesome mate......... I was thinking what it might cost for a giant bluebird and the words underneath "Bluebirds - Born 1899..........Bred........FOREVER!

What you think?

Its a fair point actually......... If needs be I will stand collecting with buckets for donations.......but I am an unknown to you all and would just fade into the back ground....... would be great if maybe Carl or annis get something out there. I am quite happy to make a sizeable contribution to it.
