Player Rating V Ipswich

Sat Jan 12, 2013 6:21 pm

Well Ipswich came with a game plan and fully deserved the point. They closed down and pressed so well, our players had next to no time on the ball and we struggled. Other than from a set piece I just couldn't see us scoring today. To many players having off days, far to lethargic and certainly not good enough.
Ill be amazed if Rudy and Connally are in the team against Blackpool and it wouldnt surprise me if Kim comes in for one of the wide players as well.

Ratings

Marshall 6 - Had little to do but today his kicking and distribution was very poor - Clean Sheet

Connally 4 - he had a poor day at the office but IMHO he is not a fullback, he doesn't offer width and his positioning is pretty poor. I felt Kev should have started and he should start on Saturday.

Hudson 6 - Did nothing wrong

Turner 6 - As above

Taylor 6 - A few lapses but tried to get something going and didnt shy away from the game

Noone 5 - Extremely poor first half, he did wake up a little in the second but another who didnt seem to fancy it today.

Gunnarrson 7 - Worked hard and kept going all game, not everything worked for him but he gave it a go.

Witts 4 - Very poor today, seemed half asleep, didnt get stuck in like he has previously and his passing wasnt at its best.

Conway 6 - Worked hard and did try but his decision making was very poor, also kept the ball to long and far to hesitant

Bellamy 7 - Missed our only real chance but the only player with any tempo. I wish his desire and work ethic would rub off on Mason.

Rudy 3 - I'm happy to praise him when he does well but today he was awful and rightly withdrawn at half time.

SUBS

Mason 6 - Did ok, much better option than Rudy but he made a bit of a nothing impact really.

Smith 4 - Will be a huge asset when fit, today he was no where near fit enough.

Helguson - No time to impact

Final moan
BALL BOYS - again I mention this but they are lazy fuckers. All except one in the corner of the canton and Ninian who ran over, got the ball and shouted for the other one to get the towel ready for Gunnar. they should all be like that :old:

The ball boys seem to think they're there for a free ticket.

Someone needs to have a word with them.

I'd agree with your ratings in general though although I think you were a bit generous to Rudy.

Even a 3 implies he did something.

I agree Connolly was awful. I've always said Kev is a much better all round, people will say Kev' passing lets him down, but Connolly couldn't even put the simple passes together today. He's looked shakey for a number of weeks now.

Don't think Whitts was as bad as people say though, he's just playing too bloody deep!
I'd start Mason and Bellamy up front for Blackpool, as well as Kev RB

Marshall 6 - didn't have to do much, I think he would have saved the shot which hit the bar. His predictable long balls after delaying really annoy me.

Connolly 5- woeful.
Hudson 6 - poor today, wasn't strong enough.
Turner 7 - starting to get back to his best, good performance.
Taylor 6 - far too negative, needs to push on more.

Noone 5 - did nothing, can't remember him putting a good cross in.
Whittingham 5 - awful, apart from set pieces he was poor today.
Gunnarsson 8 - I thought he was our best player with Bellamy, was really trying to make things happen.
Conway 6 - he did alright, nothing noteworthy.

Gestede 4 - I've defended him in the past, but today he was a joke. No effort, and that pisses me off no end.
Bellamy 8 - once again he didn't stop running, and worked very hard. Only criticism is the chance he should have took.

Mason 6 - didn't do anything, can't see him starting at Blackpool.
Smith 7 - considering he hasn't played competitively for a while, he did well. A few misplaced passes, but you expect that really.
Helguson - not on long enough.

I know Kevs passing is poor but he gives us so much width and his movement getting up and down the line pulls players out of position and generally makes more space for others.
If Kev had played the way Connally did today we would have been massively slated.

I do like Connally but he should be someone who can fill in at fullback and not someone starting most weeks

Oh I dunno they may change but we wont go up unless we improve our ball boys :old:

At one point in the second half we had a corner and Bellamy was waiting by the corner waiting for the ball, I dont think the ball boy would have bothered if Bellamy hadnt given him a stare

Our ball boys must be the worst in the country, but the fact that City don't have a 'multi-ball' system surely doesn't help.

 they must be the same people, how the hell could the club ring anywhere and ask for a few boys to help out with the balls?

Re: Player Rating V Ipswich

Hudson tracking was way off at times today. Conway I am a big fan but has faded recently. Whitts was awful but I do have sympathy with him being played so deep. Gestede well truly awful and his jump in the first half which the ball hit him on the back of the neck was comedy gold. In fact our Polish photographer took a picture of me laughing my Fooking guts up
Gunnerson and Bells the only players to put a shift in. But in all honestly today's performance has been no different of a lot of our recent games Blackburn apart so no surprises there.

Re: Player Rating V Ipswich

Sat Jan 12, 2013 7:27 pm

Connolly really showed his limitations for me today. Lost count of the number of times in the second half that we had a potential overlap be he wouldn't go any further than 5 yards into their half. We need that attacking threat for the home games particularly

My mates son used to be a ballboy until three weeks ago when they finished them all .The ballboys are all our academy players ,think they might be a bit more energetic and be able to read the game ,quick when it,s our ball slow it down a bit when it,s not.The ballboy,s they finished have been given free entry till the end of the season

Re: Player Rating V Ipswich

Why doesn't Malky play Noone on the left wing anymore. Wingers playing on their unatural side who can cut in and shoot are fine but when it doesn't work as it hasn't for a few games lately then play them on their natural side. Nooney was always on the left at the start of the season and was superb

Agreed, Noone looks far better when he's on the left.

But then as someone mentioned on another thread, it's no co-incidence Taylor's looked defensively better since Conway's sat in front of him protecting him.

Noone started on the left the other week in a home game and wasn't really involved until they switched.

It may be interesting to add the ball boys were sacked at HALF TIME at the Peterborough game when we were 1-0 down being told that they were too slow (nothing to do with the slow 11 on the pitch!) They were replaced by the academy players for the second half when peterborough came out and scored within 5 minutes of the start!

A lot of the ball boys have been doing the job for 3/4 years and are very passionate about football and the club! Baring in mind..yes they get to see the game for free but its no fun sat in the cold and rain!

It would appear that the academy boys havent made any improvement! :old: :?: :?: :?:

Re: Player Rating V Ipswich

Those 'lazy' ball boys are academy players!!!

The previous ball boys were sacked at half time at the Peterborough game for being too slow!!

They were trained to read the game as mentioned in another post, but the new ball boys have been awful for the last 3&12 games.

Some of the ball boys had done the job for free for many years, with no recognition for sitting out there in all weather!! :!:

Fully agree, good manager, shrewd loan signings, defence was excellent on the day, Ipswich are going to be a handfull for other teams.

I ain't going to rate anyone apart from Turner, send him to development games and not include him in the squad, utter useless.

Fair enough. Connolly got slated for hoofing the ball yet his ball actually was worth chasing down. Turners didn't even get even 40 yards close to one of our players.

He heads like a donkey and can't even play a 1 yard header pass to our player.

Terrible.

I don't think Connally hoofed the ball he just couldn't control it or pass it or position himself well and offered nothing going forward.

I thought turners passing was better than usual today, more short passes than hoofing and strong in the air.

Counted 7 hoofballs, happy with the clean sheet but Turner has had a terrible dip in form imo. Connolly in CB and Kev RB.
