CCFC play Kevin Sainte-Luce found guilty of assaulting girl

Thu Jan 10, 2013 9:15 am

Academy player Kevin Sainte-Luce will be sentenced next week after nightclub incident in November.

A promising Cardiff City midfielder knocked a woman unconscious and assaulted her friend during a night out at a popular city centre nightclub, a court has heard.
Kevin Sainte-Luce, 19, punched Anna Wadey and pushed her friend, Laura Bennett, to the ground as the pair celebrated a friend’s 18th birthday at Glam Nightclub on Greyfriars Road.
The 19-year-old, who trained with Cardiff City Academy, was drinking and dancing with friends when the incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, November 3.
Rhys Thomas, prosecuting, said the girls were dancing when Sainte-Luce punched Miss Wadey “for no obvious reason”.
He added she had been knocked unconscious and suffered a badly bruised jaw and cuts to her mouth.
Miss Bennett, 23, said she was determined not to let Sainte-Luce leave the club.
“I didn’t want to let him get away with it,” she said.
“I shouted at him ‘why did you hit a girl?’ but he didn’t show any emotion.”
She added: “When I first saw him, he looked really angry and aggressive. I felt quite scared. He took a step back and lunged at me. His fists were clenched and he shoved me with both hands.”
Geraint Richards, defending, said the footballer had acted in self-defence.
Speaking with the help of an interpreter, the 19-year-old said: “She was right in my face and she was shouting and swearing at me. She was provoking me and I just wanted her to go away.”
He added Miss Bennett had stumbled because she was tipsy and wearing high heels.
Miss Bennett denied the accusation, saying: “I was mildly tipsy, but I did not fall over. I do not remember swearing at him.”

District Judge Bodfan Jenkins said: “It seems to me these were the actions of a courageous and determined young woman. She felt intimidated, but she still took on the role of ensuring he did not escape without sanction. She acted in a spirit of friendship.”
He added he did not believe Saint-Luce had acted in self-defence.
“I do not find that Miss Bennett acted in the banshee-like way described by the defence,” he said.
“His evidence does not show a real fear of attack.”
Sainte-Luce, of Fairwater Grove East, was arrested on November 10, after handing himself into the police.
He pleaded guilty to assaulting Anna Wadey on November 27, but denied assaulting Laura Bennett. He was found guilty of assaulting Miss Bennett and will be sentenced at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on January 15. :o

Looks like his career at Cardiff City could be over. :o :ayatollah:

Not sure what you mean by "looks like his career is over at Cardiff City"

It should be already over. No place for him at our club. More suited to scumsea with their record of players.

Get rid of him now, as MM always talks about the togethherness of the squad, there is no place for his rugby type at the club.

No room for this.

The end of the day you are meant to be a future role model for kids. Even when your off the pitch you're meant to be a role model and that is a disgrace. Dissapointed in the lad.

Doesn't look good for him but a bit harsh to say his Cardiff career is over. Hopefully this is an isolated incident from a young man and he can learn from his mistakes and move on.

It's not like one of our star player's has never had his share of troubles off the field!

I know Bellamy was cleared of the second one but he's clearly no angel off the field, and knowing someone who was involved in the second case i hear it was possibly a case of 'money talks' that got him off with it.
By the way i'm not defending what Kevin Saint-Luce has done here, he has been found guilty and will rightly be punished.

I assume everyone who wants him sacked will also have wanted Bellamy sacked for doing the same whilst playing for us?

If not, hypocrites.

I'm not condoning his actions - it's wrong and he's very stupid.

right, i know nothing of the case to be fair.

was it against a woman?
did it go to court?
if so was he actually found guilty?

if the answer to any of the above is no then its totally different.

A player was officially cautioned for a common assault on two people. Nobody bats an eyelid because he's a good player.

Similar thing, if a youngster at Chelsea had been found guilty of the same crime as Terry, I'm sure he'd have been sacked.

It's hypocrisy and unfair.

Not that I'm condoning the actions of either player.

SACK HIM

He admitted walking up to a woman and punching her for no reason.

Entirely different to the bellamy situation

Re: Kevin Sainte-Luce found guilty of assaulting girl.

Yes. Common assault.

All I'm saying is that why the people who calling for him to be sacked didn't call for Bellamy to be sent back to MCFC after that?

Just playing devils advocate here. :ayatollah:

Re: Kevin Sainte-Luce found guilty of assaulting girl.

The cases are totally different Chuckles, you cant compare them. In one, Bellamy gets a caution for assault against 2 men.
St Luce has admitted knocking unconcious a woman for no reason.

If bells had done what St Luce did id want him sacked;
If St Luce had done what bells did, then carry on as bells did.

Ok what I meant 2 say was a key independent witness didn't show up. :)
I'm not 1 who gets into slanging matches on here of I'm right and your wrong, I know it all and your stupid so I'll leave it at that.
What's evident is that Bellamy is no angel off the field but he has Malky's backing and does the business on the field, it remains 2 be seen whether Saint-Luce gets the same treatment.

A coward of the highest order. An outcry when Marlon king was available. Sack him and I hope the Courts deport him.
Just one question if he needed an interpreter how did he know she was swearing at him ?
And a big up to the girl :ayatollah:

it is not wise to make comments regarding any off the pitch speculation, especially at this stage of the season.

Is it just me or is it just the sign of the times? You wouldn't have had the likes of Cohen Griffith, Phil Stant and Doug Blair behaving in this appalling manner, it's the youth of today sadly.

I would seriously consider renewing my Season ticket if this bandicoot remains at the club, I should start a petition to get him out.

'promising', as in he's utter shite. None of our current reserve squad will ever have a chance with Cardiff, unless by some twisted fate of luck we end up in League 2.

I've seen this kid out in Oceana and Glam before, looked like being a 'footballer' has got to his head the way he was being intimidating and forceful especially at girls (although he wasn't alone there was another young footballer out our club who was doing a similar thing). Hope the club sack him!
