anyone been watching the bdo world darts?
I find it staggering the difference in class of the players from the bdo and pdc, also the atmosphere seems a lot bleaker than pdc's.

its awful, i could beat half of them

I love the pdc and hardly missed a match when it was on last month but I don't get the constant knocking of the bdo. Clearly the standard isn't as high but it never is going to be when the better players move across to the pdc every year. But there is still atleast 6 or 7 players in the bdo every year that could handle life in the pdc easily. I guarantee some of the players everyone is knocking now in the bdo, will be getting massive cheers and interest in the pdc in a few years time.

there are some good players in the BDO, but they are few and far between to be fair.

They obviously haven't got the depth of the pdc I agree but 90percent of the pdc have come from the bdo. Every year theyl lose four or five of their better players to the pdc. I don't watch the bdo religiously like I do the pdc but its not a bad watch at all if u like your darts.

Theres not 4 or 5 every year stop exagerating.
The odd decent one comes over but the top players in the pdc have been in the pdc for a good number of years now.
Ted Hanke come over in recent years and hes gash.

I'm not the only one that thinks that then

I'm horrible at darts and play in the "Mickey Mouse Swansea 2nd division reserves" or something like that, yet watching the BDO championship gives me hope

There is four or five every year but not all of them get into the tv tournaments. They still go to all the pro tour events, its just bloody hard to qualify for the majors when u have to start from the bottom and the standard is so high. Only winstanley has really made it from the lot that switched over last year.

who were the others that switched then?
Thu Jan 10, 2013 12:43 pm
Off the top of my head it was winstanley, hankey, the two west brothers. There's four for u there. There may well have been more, I just can't think at the moment. I know tony o'shea switched but then changed his mind at the last minute and stayed with the bdo.

Well it just goes to show the standard of the BDO isnt there if only one of them, Winstanley, is being competetive on TV and even he lost to a lower ranked pdc player in the world champs.
Winstanley was one of the best players by far in the BDO and hes just average in the PDC.
Scotty Waites is about the only player in the BDO who could come over to the PDC and make it into one of the top players IMO.

Barely miss a match of the PDC world champs. Watch as much of the premier league darts as I can(including going to the Cardiff 1!

)
But the BDO does nothing for me. Players aren't as good, the atmosphere is rubbish and the BBC now share coverage with ESPN, which is a bit random!!

I'm on in an hour, don't tell anyone I'm on the sick !!!!

I think stephen bunting may well cross over this year and he's good enough to do some damage. Also, I wouldn't say winstanley is average in the pdc. Granted, he can have the odd mare, but to do what he has done this year, so quickly after crossing over is brilliant. He's been in the last few tv majors, got a 9 darter in the worlds and he just looks like he's going to get better and better. Bunting, waites, wolfy, kist, o'shea, harms etc could easily handle it in the pdc.
Thu Jan 10, 2013 3:06 pm
not sure about kist or o shea to be fair.
And Adams would have a few years ago, but not anymore
Thu Jan 10, 2013 3:18 pm
Bit harsh on Hankey, didn't have him a stroke mid game?
Thu Jan 10, 2013 3:19 pm
True about adams, looks like age is catching up on him. O'shea would be a good solid player and if kist put his head to it he could make it imo. Don't forget, when they cross over and play with better players, then they become better players themselves. Look at gary anderson for example. Same can be said for winstanley and plenty of others
Thu Jan 10, 2013 3:34 pm
The youngsters in the BDO are worth watching cos they'll be the future PDC players and world champions. As for your Fitton,s Oshea's and Adams's ZZZZzzzzzzzz

Until Winstanley starts getting into quarters and semi finals on a regular basis then he is an average player.
I could name 10 better players than Winstanley straight off the bat.
A decent player but nothing special in the PDC.
Thu Jan 10, 2013 3:40 pm
This Richie George is a ringer for Ricky Butcher.

He played an "exhibition" down my local few months back and barely won a leg.
Good entertainment but thats about it.

The darts is well below the Sky version granted, but I wouldn't watch it due to that pantomine clown BobbyGeorge and his stupid chavvy chains, rings and loud cockney mouth.

thats the sort of attitude that sees people label Tim Henman as an "average" tennis player.
Winstanly is very good, and appears to be getting better to be fair.

In terms of the top players he is average at the minute.

If winstanley was just an 'average' player then you wouldn't have seen him on the tv at all this year. I don't care who it is, apart from taylor and maybe van gerwen, ANY other player in the pdc would struggle to do what winstanley has done the last year. To get from the very bottom to playing in tv majors inside 6 months is outstanding. I can see him being in the premier league in 2014 if he carries on as he's going.

leave it there joey, you make it sound like he apeared from nowhere and then 6 months later hes on TV.
he is an experienced player who has been around for years, and theres no way he in the same bracket as everyone except MVG and Taylor.
hes on a par with Andy the Pie Man Smith and Dennis Ovens.
Whitlock, Anderson, Thornton all done what hes done and more jumping from the BDO to the PDC, and within 6 months.

Winstanley finished 33rd in the PDC order of merit 2012 season. Ranked 42 in the world.
Yet to some on here you think he was the next Phillip Taylor.

Thats a bit rich from you Paul, you pour scorn on every single player Cardiff City are linked with. We could be linked with Messi and you would find a negative.

Yet you want to blow smoke up the arse of a darts player ranked 42nd in the world, and a tennis player who never appeared in a final of a major.

I bet when you were a kid you played football for one of those teams who never won a trophy and whos parents chipped in to buy them a trophy at the end of the season and told them "Its ok, its the taking part that counts. You are all winners".
