Port talbot/Neath

Just wondering what's the split of city and gyppos down there these days?

Much respect to the bluebirds down there what with living so close to that place full of people with squeaky accents

Is probably 60-40 to Swansea! With them getting promoted that helped them out alot! I live in afan valley, and since the jacks gone up its probably gone from 60-40 to 60-40 to Swansea!

Is it f**k jackland,, You obviously don't live here. Port Talbot and neath have a massive following of Cardiff, of all ages. Intact we're having to battle the Jack's on numerous occasions when they venture into town.

I know what you mean! We do have a good few fans from those areas, but when its all said and done, it has to be there area. Now that the jacks are in the prem league and doing well, anyone from them areas supporting the jacks or start supporting the jacks, will be supporting there local team. I'm not disputing we have a Good following from them areas, but you couldn't argue with anyone from them areas pledging allegiance to the jacks...its there local club

That's rubbish - we've always had a very strong and loyal following down here for City :ayatollah:

The plastics have come out in force though over the last couple of seasons since they got promoted

Because they are only coming out following promotion to the prem and not supporting the club through the thin.

I wouldn't say infested at all mate. You'd never get a jack pub in Bridgend for instance, yet look at the city pubs; west house, old castle, bryntirion footy club, royal oak. For the last 30 years you'd never see a jack top in Bridgend neither. Since their promotion there's one or two about but it's still an overwhelmingly bluebird area. I'd still say 90percent blue. :ayatollah:

Still overwhelmingly cardiff. People come from all over to go to the pines. Even saw Alan Curtis shopping for trainers in the Adidas shop before...the jack tw*t :)

Ah this old argument, I used to talk about this on CCMB years ago before this forum was even thought of.

I work all over Wales and have businesses in Port Talbot and Neath (believe it or not it's the truth) and have good idea of how the land lies, so to speak. There are way more Swans fans in these areas, yes, there is a element of Cardiff support but it is minimal.

I was in PT steelworks yesterday in fact, talking to a bunch of CCFC fans two had moved down to PT years ago. This is what I find common, most Cardiff support is through people or relatives moving to the area. Neath and Port Talbot look towards Swansea as being 'their' City, so the majority who follow football support the Swans.

If you add all the Neath and PT lads who support CCFC together and all the people from Swansea living in Cardiff who support the Swans it would probably be around the same figure.

Aha ofcourse not! Where did I say that? Some of our best and most loyal support come from yor way, port talbot, neath etc, but in my opinion, neath and port talbot comes under the jack catchment area. So for us to have such Good support coming from them areas is a privilege for our club.

I know you didn't mean me, but Bridgend isn't local to Cardiff, it's a mile closer to jackland for christs sake! That doesn't make cardiff my local club.

It may be their local club, but half the new fans can't name the team, don't know ant of the history etc....they can still be local plastics believe me. We have them too!

I know of many living in Swansea/Swansea Valley/Lougher/Llanelli too. Add to that Port Talbot and Neath? I lived in Morriston for 25 years.
You are joking if you think you have more from Cardiff than these areas.

Not sure what you mean, I never said anything about Swansea or it's surrounds.

Regarding the Swansea Valley, I was born and bread there. I know one Cardiff fan and he is originally from Cardiff. Don't go throwing that area into the argument. It's a no go. :P

Re: Port talbot/Neath

It all depends which areas you live in within Neath Port Talbot, but there is no hatred between Cardiff fans and Swansea fans who live within these areas, its all banter.

In my opinion, the only people who seem to cause trouble within Neath Port Talbot, are those who come outside the Neath Port Talbot areas to cause trouble between both sets of fans (both Cardiff and Swansea, doesnt matter who starts it, it can kick off when both teams are playing each other)

At present I would say Neath is 80% Jack and 20% Bluebird overall, but if you go into areas like Briton Ferry and parts of Neath East you will probably find a 50/50 split.

Port Talbot is quite unique, overall I'd say there is more Swansea fans than Cardiff fans, I will go as far to suggest its a 60/40 split, maybe 65/35 split due to Swansea in premier league, but there are certain areas where there is a major majority of Cardiff fans.

Areas like Aberavon, Taibach and Margam are major Cardiff areas, if i was to guess, I would say 60/40 split. However, Afan Valleys has a significant proportion of Cardiff fans historically, with buses for home games start within these areas for the Maesteg Bluebirds. Probably along the lines of 70/30 split in favour of Cardiff.

Sandfields and Baglan is sigficantly a strong Swansea area, if I was to guess I would say somewhere along the lines in being a 75/25 split.

I know there has been a study done by an ex-swansea university student who studied the rivalry of cardiff and swansea football fans as part of football tribalism in 2009 for his Masters, and found one of the key things why some football supporters who support Cardiff or Swansea were mainly due to historical family backgrounds.

People who traditionally worked in the Docks supported Swansea, as this was a key link between Port Talbot docks and Swansea docks- mainly due to both groups socialising together and attended Swansea games.

Cardiff fans who use to live in the Valleys, use to work in the old coal mines, which had a railway linking the mines between Rhondda valleys and the mines in port talbot, the workers there would tend to work all over, and hence, the taff railway would end up in Cardiff.

But thats the major reasons why our grandparents may have taken our parents to there respective clubs games, however, todays generation is significantly different, which is the SUCCESS off the club brings in new fans and sigificantly, Port Talbot is within the Swansea catchment area, so its natural to have more Swansea fans.....but this was not always the case.

I live in Neath Port Talbot and it would take me about 30 minutes to get to the Jacks stadium and about 50 minutes to get to ours - hardly much in it, so in my view, Cardiff are my local team - and Cardiff have always been my family team (my Grandad was at Wembley in 1927 :ayatollah: )

The ones who are coming out now with Jack shirts, coats etc are plastics because when the Jacks were down in the lower leagues they were not even interested in the Jacks. If they maintain their interest (even if they got relegated) then they would no longer be plastics, but at the moment, that's what many of these types are to me.
