if the club made a statement of apology....

Sun Dec 30, 2012 11:40 am

Because they didn't realise the backlash about the colour change and promise to reverse back to blue at home for next season. Then the club would sell all remaining season tickets overnight. That would probably make more than what the red shirt has made them in clear profit through the club shop.

What backlash?

You dont go. You didnt go before and you wouldnt go if we revert to Blue, you'd find
another 'martyrdom' excuse not to bother

The ground is pretty full most weeks

The red merchandise is moving off the shelves

People wearing red shirts are not abused or attacked

People wearing blue shirts are not abused or attacked.

Statistically, financially... what has been the backlash?

What has it COST Vincent Tan or Cardiff City?

What backlash Adam?

The scale which I think you are tlking about I get the impression from some is minimal.

There's no doubt about it. The club had lost ticket revenue because of it and I do t believe for one moment that the red shit is mind ing off the shelfs as much as they say.

And taffy I'm still waiting for proof off individuals like you that I didn't go before. Bearing in mind that Gwyn has made this myth being legend in some people's eyes.

My dear Angry Man you sir are a deluded individual if you think there is a backlash going on other than what is going on in your and foreverblue imagination

Ok then so how many do you lot think have refused to go to games since the rebrand then ? Bearing in mind you cant go on attendances because of new supporters but it's definitely in the thousands and not hundreds or even tens as some would like to think.

Around 25000 crowds suggest its far less than you seem to think.

What proof do YOU have that the supporters that have stopped going have not been
replaced by new supporters? "There's no doubt about it".... Prove it!!

I suspect that the new red shite ISNT moving as quick as the Club would like and that
many supporters might be hedging their bets and hoping we lose that awful beermat.

Whenever I purchase anything from the Club, I always go 'retro'. I wont buy red.

But you are intimating that the Club has lost thousands of supporters over the rebrand

I think at least 2,000 have stopped going. :(
On the other hand I reckon there at least 2,500 new fans taking their place.
I have no doubt whatsoever that half the initial 2,000 would come back if promoted.(plus all the plastics of course)
Only an opinion as we will never know the truth.

Agree with Taffy here, there has been no backlash whatsoever in the eyes of the owners. Gates are about the same as they were last season and the seasons before, and any drop in ticket sales can also be found at every other club in the football league. You look at the crowd on match days and there are red shirts everywhere, merchandise with the new badge and colours are flying off the shelves. The implications of the rebrand are amplified on places like this forum because people are more willing to talk about it, rather than mention it passingly in person.

I agree it being around the 2,000 mark and with around 500 season tickets remaining hense the reasoning behind this topic.

the plastics are out in force and helping swell the clubs coffers, 25000 is fantastic.

as for the red, i disagree with it but i'd be cutting off my nose to spite my face if i stopped going. and i'd be a hypocrite if i suddenly decided to start going again if we got to the PL, as i expect many will start going next year

i think they should apologise for lying to, and misleading the fans though, thats not too much to ask :ayatollah:

Its spot on. All Tan is interested in is bottom line. If the rebrand had been proven to
have an adverse effect on Season Ticket sales, or on Merchandising, then maybe he'd
have had second thoughts. How on EARTH can anyone say gates have been affected
when Tan can cite evidence to the contrary such as FIFTY THOUSAND+ through the
CCS gates in the last four days.

I'm playing Devils Advocate here. I dont like the Red or the badge any more than anyone
else. But the alternative is to stop supporting Cardiff City. No brainer for me!!

No doubt there was a backlash but nowhere near what some fans would hope.

Unfortunately for those who cannot ever accept the rebrand the 'backlash' has coincided with an amazing season on the pitch. The 'backlash' would have worked better followed by a poor season then those staying away would see their numbers mean smaller crowds. As it is, the 'backlash' has been weakened by more new fans arriving.

What could be more gauling than seeing your protest fall on deaf ears because the club did not miss you due to NEW fans.

That said there are many more also unhappy with the rebrand but still go. I still think if there was a straight question about staying red or going back to blue, with no threats of funding withdrawal, then most fans would want blue.

I can't. I'll go with what I've learned on here over the last two years. your a Merthyr fan and
very rarely set foot in Ninian Park. And admitted as much to Annis by all accounts because
you wanted a Wembley ticket. thats going along with circumstantial evidence that is.

Now show me some that indicates thousands have dropped out over the rebrand???

you cant get a more staunch supporter than Annis. He despises the rebrand but still goes..
Cos the Club is in his blood. You telling me there are thousands with 'stronger morals' than
him? Dont be ridiculous. The overwhelming majority who dislike the red/badge still follow
Cardiff City. The proof is in the attendances. Your "i dont go because of the rebrand" stance
is bollocks, cos you werent going anyway, were you?

Re: if the club made a statement of apology....

I think it is fair to say that lots of people dont mind about the Red kit but lots of people do care and would if given a choice change back to blue.

From my point of view I still have my season tickets and I still go to every home game but it is fair to say I am still passionate about my club but not as passionate as before when we were Blue.

Whats happening at the club on the pitch is fantastic but for me the club have us over a barrel what I mean is if you dont like or agree with the colour change then most fans will still go to games because CCFC is like a drug its addictive and when you have been going for years how can you just stop ?

For me if we were in this position in Blue it would be perfect the Red kit does tarnish it a lot for me and I am still very angry that he changed the kit and its disrespectful as a supporting fan.

The anger will never go away for me but we must somehow learn to respect each other difference of opinion regarding the colour of the kit.But if Tan had left things alone like all the other chairman did for the last 100 years then we wouldnt be talking about this now would we.

Tan did it and split the fans that for me is the only thing so far he has achieved at City so far.

The big question for me is WHY did he do it ,lots said I will go with it for the money so where is the money of the pitch what has he done where is the investment why havent Langston been payed etc.So we came back to WHY did he re brand us and how have we benefited from it .The answer is we havent benefited so why did he change us ?Thats what I dont get

We as fans have to be together but how? it was always going to slit opinion that to me is all we have achieved from the re brand

Re: if the club made a statement of apology....

4 mates of mine who never went before aside from the occasional game or big game are all now season ticket holders.

1 Bought at the start of the season and 3 have bought half season tickets. The one who bought it at the start of the season probably would have done anyway but the other three without doubt have bought because of the chance to watch Premiership Football next season.

Out of the three that bought half season tickets they all left the Palace game at half time to go back to the pub and out of the three of them one went yesterday.

We are all going to Blackpool but they are going for the weekender not for the Football and I doubt very much they will go to the game or if they do will probably be a flying visit.

This is the way it is now.

They are all good lads and mates of mine but are stereotypical Man Utd, Liverpool fan/part time City Fan.

None of them give a shit about the re-brand and couldn't care what colour we play in. They are also the ones who will stop going as soon as we fall out of the Premiership/get bored/don't make it.

The fans that have stopped going have obviously been replaced by new fans, what the numbers are is anyone's guess and its impossible to put a figure on it.

The only way we will see how many fans we have lost from the re-brand is if we don't make the premiership or go down the road of Coventry/Portsmouth etc in years to come.

It is great to see City at the top of the League in front of big crowds, its just a shame about the circumstances.

Exactly. TLG.... Somebody else will be sitting in his seat. Not knocking him here, but the
plain facts are.... Somebody else's money has replaced his. The Club moves onwards and
upwards. Tan knew how much he was going to pump into the club this season. the gamble
was, will success on the pitch compensate for the SHITE rebrand. He's got it spot on :(

Years to come. Agreed. When/if we go back down in the dungeons we will see where the
new supporters are then. Back shopping or watching the Saturday afternoon film is my guess.

However. Irrespective of all the Tan/Hammam/rebrand/debt to equity/£100m loan bollocks....

i think the future of Cardiff City Football Club is assured under Vincent Tan. Just remains to
be seen how much more (if any) of our 'identity' he wants to discard.

Cos if the Bluebird goes, I, for one, will be gone with it :(

The thing is taff if we stay in the Prem for a few years (if we get there) then those we call plastics now may turn into real fans and keep going even if we come down. Look at all the teams who's fans stick around, they've all had successful periods. Man City, Leeds, etc. and when they fell they still had decent crowds because plastics become real fans over time and need to keep going. Some will obviously stop going but thats the way things are.

I did clearly point out that its from wiki so what are the real figures then..? However as mentioned many times by others too you cant really go on attendences because of new fans.
