Looking good!.. But are we good enough?

Thu Dec 27, 2012 11:34 am

This season we seem to showing the determination to reach new heights.. But will it pay off?

My slightly nervous thoughts are not based on our form.. But our fragile and sometimes bare minimum performances.

In previous seasons we've witnessed champions such as Newcastle, QPR and Southampton. Teams that were always very hard to break down and would dominate games from start to finish. We are at the summit at the moment. But the other big clubs aren't performing. Quite frequently we look fragile and not a dominant force to be wreckoned with. Which is slightly worrying to me if other clubs decide to spend money in January and pick up powerful form for the business end of the season.

We want to be frightening other teams into giving us the points with powerful, dominant and premiership worthy performances.

Come on city! Dig deep! :old:

u dont have to play well to win, just have the luck and work pays off. which is showing this season. 5 points clear and still people dont believe were good enough, what do they have to do.. were spending in jan by the looks of it and then everybody will be scared of us. FACT

You are going to get some backlash from some members on here for that.

I do actually share your concerns. Some teams are not performing like Bolton, Blackburn, Leicester and most importantly Forest. A number of teams have changed their managers this season as well. It is difficult to judge what is going to happen as we go into the second half of the season. I feel we could see a different league happening as we continue the season. Saying that I do feel we have got a good cushion and we can get an auto place.

This is my theory as well
unfortunately 90% of our fans are blinded by the results anyone who knows football will be able
to spot we are weak in area's we have had some luck if Zaha made it 2-0 yesterday it would of been a day to forget
fortunately for us we scored and palace had their heads up their arse.
I thought we were fantastic in the second half but craig bellamy was a stand out performer and with his delivery and aggression it drove the team on to win

Couple of things for me
Husdon
and turner can't play a good touch and pass game, its just hoof ball they can defend but its thrown into the mix far to often

up front we haven't got the quality in depth needed, gustede should not be anywhere near the starting line up for a premiership bound/top championship club

We have a good midfield but as you mention QPR, West ham, Newcastle they had sheer quality that stood out across the pitch, not just craig bellamy and whittingham on a good day

iv thought this but not wanted to post it myself. im going to make a big comment here that could get me some stick but......whitts scores goals, plays killer passes and creates good goals, would we dominate a game more without him? though? someone tougher and more mobile

Re: Looking good!.. But are we good enough?

I do believe this is our season. But we need to make it easier for ourselves.

A strong mix of youth and experience in the transfer window is what we need. Players that get stuck in from the start. Because its always the same with Cardiff. If we don't get stuck in from the first whistle and start with a very high tempo, then we don't play to our strengths! We need the players to kick that off. Replace helguson with another big hard working centre forward to compliment bellamys pacey runs, as opposed to helguson taking an age to get the ball down and do anything with it.

Re: Looking good!.. But are we good enough?

Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:09 pm

Also we need a Roy Keane style midfielder. Our midfield looks too fancy at times. We need a mobile tank. When the opposition have time on the ball they need to know what's going to come clattering into them

Personally I don't think Whitts has been a big influence lately. Yet we are getting the results.

Roy Keane the defender? Haha see what you mean, but I reckon we have that in Gunnarson, and Mutch was doing it before his injury - Gunnar HAS to start against Millwall.

We have more points than Southampton and QPR had at this stage in their promotion seasons and the same as Newcastle in theirs.

Yet, apparently we aren't quite good enough for some of you. Tell me, how many of those teams games did you watch in full cos i guarantee they did not dominate as much as you have made yourselves believe.

Re: Looking good!.. But are we good enough?

Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:28 pm

i don't where to start with this thread! All the usual doom and gloom suspects with their, "i watched barcelona on tv the other night and they were better than us" understanding of football!

I'm sorry but thats the way i see you lot! You keep coming up with these UNBELIEVABLE posts and i honestly have no idea where your coming from.

This time last year Southampton were on a dreadful run where they couldn't win a game! that run was turned around when they drew against us on the last day of the window.

If you seriously expected us to gub leicester and palace you are seriously deluded and honestly need to go to old trafford to get your football fix.

There is nothing wrong with people questioning things. It is called constructive criticism and it happens everywhere be it if you are at the top of the ladder or bottom. Adding to this those in top places have all used constructive criticism to get there. Thats life so get use to it.

I agree with Sloper Road Legend. Most of our fans are blinded by our results. It's as if our fans forget our history of falling at the last hurdle. But then if any concern arises from other fans then we are just seen as ungreatful idiots.

Re: Looking good!.. But are we good enough?

Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:35 pm

I think most believe we can actually play better as we're not putting many 90 minute performances together, but that rarely happens in football.
As long as we stay strong as a team and keep grinding away, we know that we'll always threaten goals when we are playing well.
As for being good enough, maybe we are the best of a not so good bunch but we can't be worrying about that.

Malky reckons two points and we are safe :ayatollah:

I don't think any team is going to dominate the league this year, lots of teams pushing for it, as far as 17th won't be giving up yet.
People just have unrealistic expectations in that we will go in and demolish every team and should run away with the league. It's an extremely tough league.

A sign of a team going up and a good team is when you win, when you go behind and when you win and you have not played well. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: ' BLUEBIRDS ' :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Another point is we can now come from behind & win and we the fans know it. A couple of seasons ago, if we went behind we knew it was very unlikely we could win, also, defending a one goal lead was a nightmare and we always seem to concede late goals with our midfield and defence virtually on top of each other. Take yesterday, against a good side I didn't feel half the nerves I used to feel, this is a different team with a different mentality. Palace didn't really look like scoring after we went ahead. :ayatollah:

I agree with this comment. In previous seasons I'd be nervous at 4-0 up. (jokes on a postcard for that sorry peterborough trip) We do have a lot more stability this season.

West Ham and Newcastle, yes. They both had sheer quality right through their team, from back to front. But who did QPR have? They had Taarabt who imo was their only outstanding player and he won them a lot of points. We have more quality in our team compared to what QPR had and are you forgetting Southampton and Norwich? Who did they have in their teams that really stood out? No one. It is a combination of grit, hard work, determination and a little spark that gets you promoted from this league. That is what we have.

Well... I knew there would be a thread like this. Perhaps we could get Iniesta instead of Whittingham
and Puyol and Pique instead of Hudson and Turner?

Lets face it..

WE ARE A CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE, get used to it until we go up. Some of our players will not be good
enough for the Premiership, some will, we will rebuild when we go up.

But our TEAM and squad is proving to be the best by oh, about 5 points more than anyone else at this
stage.

Yesterday, Palace scored very early, poor goal to give away, that fired them up and they have one
of the best attacking units in the division. But after half an hour, OUR ''substandard'' players got to
grips with them, forced the game, choked them, starved them of possession and started to put their
SHIT defence under pressure.

Everything Palace tried in that second half was fronted by two lines of four and they could not cope
with our pressure game. Bellamy closing EVERY defender down, and the keeper. We strangled them
yesterday. It was an awesome performance against a team that had only lost 1 in 20 games.

I dont know why some bother going to games. If you can only focus on the bad bits, the mistakes, the
errors... I'm just glad i dont have people like that sat next to me!

WELL DONE CITY - PROUD OF YOU ALL YESTERDAY :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I'm talking about Palace away, charlton, peterborough, derby, forest, bolton, Games where we've looked fragile when they were games we could have shown more grit. We may have won alot. But we've also lost a few.

You have to remember all those clubs have been in the EPL so parashute payments have meant that quality players were in the squad and good players brought in to push for automatic promotion.

We however have had to build from a less financial base onlt VT's money have allowed MM to put this team together. If we do go up then quality players can be brought in as the money will be there to fund them.

Lets all get down there Saturday and get three more points closer to the promised land :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
