Pardew backs Bluebirds for automatic promotion

Mon Aug 13, 2012 7:28 am

Cardiff City are destined for automatic promotion to the Premier League, according to Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew.

The Magpies boss saw his side dismantled 4-1 in the Bluebirds’ final pre-season game on Saturday – and afterwards said he believes City, especially with Craig Bellamy in their ranks, will be joining his team in the top flight before long.

Goals from Aron Gunnarsson (2), Joe Ralls and new signing Etien Velikonja were enough to claim victory in front of a thrilled Cardiff City Stadium crowd of more than 9,000.

“I can 100% see them finishing in the top two,” was Pardew’s assessment of Malky Mackay’s men.

“I would realistically put them right up amongst the favourites.

“I have to say Cardiff have some very good young players and I think Craig Bellamy is a very good signing for them.

“Cardiff have a nice balance to the team, a great manager too, and I believe the experience they had last season of missing out will galvanise them. They are going to be very strong and if they hold it together they have a great chance of promotion.”

One of the most impressive home performances on Saturday came from new midfield signing Jordon Mutch, who showed what a dynamic and energetic influence he could be.

Afterwards, the 20-year-old sidestepped promotion talk, but stressed the belief that is in the Bluebirds squad.

“We aren’t going to say we will be promoted, but this group of lads has the confidence to go out and win each game,” he said.

“The squad is full of quality and we believe in each other.

“Personally, I like to break forward quickly and give the team energy. I like to move the ball quickly, create things for team-mates and score goals.

“They are some of the factors I will bring to the team. The gaffer knows me from my loan spell at Watford and I can’t wait to get started. These are exciting times for this club.”

The Bluebirds wore their new red shirts with black shorts for the first time and they will be wearing that again when Huddersfield visit Cardiff City Stadium this Friday, though there is tomorrow’s Capital One League Cup tie at Northampton Town to negotiate first.

Bellamy will line up alongside Mutch against Huddersfield, but City fans will have to wait a little longer for the arrival of South Korean midfielder Kim Bo-Kyung, who has to wait for a work permit to be granted.

Newcastle are one not in the premier league to make up numbers, they are a top 6 side - surely this is great feedback to get from a big premier league clube like them?? all signs are looking good for this season.

Having just been thumped 4-1 hes obviously going to big up the opposition to paper over his own teams poor performance.

Take it with a pinch of salts, lets look after our own end, and not worry about what others think.
