CARDIFF City are being linked with a move for Coventry City defender Richard Keogh.
The sought-after 25-year-old was the Sky Blues’ standout performer last season as they were relegated to League One.
A number of clubs are interested in signing Keogh, who can play at full-back or centre-half, with Bluebirds’ boss Malky Mackay in the hunt.
The Echo understands no official bid has been made by Cardiff at this point in time for the player who has a year left on his contract at the Ricoh Arena.
Keogh, who captained the Republic of Ireland’s under-21s, is valued by the Sky Blues at between £1m and £1.5m.
Bristol City, one of Keogh’s former clubs have already seen a £250,000 offer for his services described as derisory by the Coventry hierarchy.
Ipswich Town are also said to be monitoring the situation.
Keogh was named Coventry’s player of the season recently for the second campaign running.
He has made 95 appearances for the Sky Blues since arriving from Carlisle two seasons ago, after beginning his career at Stoke.
If Mackay can sign Keogh it would be his second raid on the Sky Blues in successive summers.
Last year, Mackay brought in Ben Turner from Coventry for £750,000 compensation and the 24-year-old proved a big hit in his first season with the Bluebirds.
Turner and Keogh are firm friends after their time together at Coventry.
