Cardiff City star claims family had death threats as concerning details emerge

Krystian Bielik claims his family faced death threats after his Portsmouth altercation, as the FA reveals fresh details behind his two-match ban

Cardiff City defender Krystian Bielik has claimed his family were subjected to death threats following his controversial confrontation with a Portsmouth supporter, according to newly released Football Association disciplinary findings.

Bielik told the FA that he and his family had received death threats since the incident at Fratton Park.

The Poland international was handed a two-match suspension and a £10,000

BIELIK: My family were subjected to death threats after Portsmouth incident

Fresh details have emerged after Cardiff City defender Krystian Bielik was handed a two-match ban and £10,000 fine for his Fratton Park altercation with a young Portsmouth supporter.

The FA has now published its written reasons for the punishment, including Bielik's own account of what happened and the commission's explanation for its decision.

WHAT BIELIK SAID

"I accept that the push was partly caused by frustration, but it was also affected by my forward momentum and my attempt to turn around and retrieve the ball as quickly as possible.

"I accept that I should not have made physical contact with the supporter, and I deeply regret doing so.

Bielik also told the commission his family had been subjected to death threats in the aftermath.

The panel described that as "regrettable and to be deplored", but said no supporting evidence had been provided during the disciplinary process.

WHY THE FA HANDED HIM A BAN

The proximity of Bielik's hand to the supporter's neck had the potential to suggest a neck grab.

The contact was made with a straight arm in the area of the supporter's neck.

His actions "clearly created the potential for a mass confrontation and could have led to a dangerous situation".

The FA had pushed for a three-match ban, but the commission settled on two matches after considering mitigating factors.

WHAT WENT IN BIELIK'S FAVOUR?

The commission noted his "flawless" disciplinary record and accepted that he had shown remorse by sending the supporter a letter of apology on September 10.

It also praised his restraint after the supporter struck him, although it said this could not lessen his responsibility for the initial contact.

Brian Barry-Murphy also provided a witness statement and character reference.

The panel gave limited credit for Bielik's guilty plea, arguing that the clear video footage had left him with little alternative but to admit the charge.

Police separately confirmed that an out-of-court disposal had been agreed between Bielik and the supporter following their investigation.

Not good to hear.

I'd imagine there were high emotions from Pompey fans after the incident but death threats and involving his family is obviously way over the line.

The FA got the punishment right. Some were saying he'd be banned for a long time but that was never likely, particularly given his good character. It'll be good to have him back available after tonight.

Yes absolutely.

I guess the threats came after the game when everybody on social media and many in the press and broadcasting world were piling on to the player which can often lead to extreme reactions from the more mentally challenged amongst us.

And as usual, the cowards who made said threats will remain as faceless as they are gutless!

I’m sure Krystian Bielik will get a rousing reception from the Bluebird faithful come Saturday! :ayatollah:
