HOW LUCKY WHERE WE .

Mon Oct 05, 2026 9:49 pm

To have got out of league 1 at the first attempt we where so so lucky.

I have just been looking at the latest league 1 Table,

Leicester and luton way down the table, and clubs who are stuck in that division wigan huddersfield plymouth etc.

Let's hope we push on this season and fans start coming back, we are back in the Championship lets savour it some absolutly tough but tasty fixtures and lets not be frightened of any team in this division, we are here on merrit

No luck about it, we appointed a manager with a very clear style of play. I was confident we'd go up from November onwards to be honest.

But I totally agree with your other points, hopefully the break didn't stop our momentum and we can move away from the bottom four now.

We where lucky we had murphy as our manager after relagation, we where lucky after loosing our main striker and had no replacement ,I get your point it was murphy as manager.

The ‘luck’ was in BBM’s appointment through his excellent youth links, but the majority was through hard work, coaching, togetherness, man management, and a manager and players who ‘wanted’ success

As my granny would say, ‘for once the stars aligned!’ :ayatollah:

14 point gap to 3rd, who were as close to 12th place Reading as they were to us. That's not luck, that is an extremely comfortable margin.

It maybe felt lucky on this forum, but switch that noise off and it was a very successful season.

I do agree with the point you are trying to make though, I think if we didn't go up last season, we'd have been stuck there for a while.

All success is down to luck

Ask any failure

God give me strength there was no luck involved. Not everything in life comes down to chance. Give the club a tiny bit of credit for finding the right man to lead us forward and for investing in our academy and youth players.

Perhaps I should have said "glad" but at least you had the intelligence to see where I was coming from.

Mate it’s an old Oscar Wilde quote.
I get what you’re saying, it would be a more onerous task this season than last.

To be fair to monty he's not saying we got promoted because we were lucky he's saying we were lucky to bring in bbm when we did because if we went with another manager and didn't invest in the squad we could still be a league one club

So in that respect we are lucky the board finally got the right man

See your point and to be fair you also said we are here on merit.

Hopefully we get three points on Saturday to make it back to back wins.

Of course we where lucky to have murphy but it was not tans expertise in spotting a good un,
it was he was the cheapest option.

And I would say that loosing your top goal scorer early on in the season, and we could not bring in anybody to cover ,
but we had kellyman who had played as a striker in the past who slotted in and found the back of the net ,murphy did not put a lot of faith in Robinson
So kellyman turned out to be lucky for us we had him and a dam shame we lost him.

Getting BBM was 100% luck. Tan went with the cheapest option he just so happens to be an absolute gem. Monkeys and typewriters though

This is true actually, there was luck in terms of how they landed on BBM. Remember they tried to get Nathan Jones first, personally I said at the time I didn't want him and I'm glad he decided to stay at Charlton - doing a good job but I'm not a fan of the style myself.

Yeah I was convinced he would come back here but as soon as he said he wanted a club abroad we knew that it wasn't going to happen

I agree tan got lucky with the appointment of bbm but I'm just glad it happened because what's crazy is he was at Leicester when we signed him and when the Leicester job became vacant they could have promoted him to head coach and we could still be in league one watching Leicester play the football that we are now

Sometimes the stars do align

To quote my own comment... "Give the club a tiny bit of credit for finding the right man to lead us forward" so I have acknowledged that your partly referring to the appointment.
But also your first sentence below kind of implies we were lucky to be promoted and not just lucky for appointing a good manager.
"To have got out of league 1 at the first attempt we where so so lucky"
Did my comment insult you Monty? I'm not sure why your calling me a bandwaggoner. I'll be honest I've been an avid reader of this place for many years and I find you to be quite calculated with your posts to try and undermine most aspects of the club (they really don't need any help with that as there doing a good enough job themselves)

No luck; we were by far the second-best team in the League.

No luck about it; they appointed the right Manager.

Same, as there was no bad luck when they appointed Riza; appointments are black and white, and they have to live by them.

Apolgies a bit crowsty at the moment thought you where just saying the same as others about the title I may have got the title of my post wrong, i should have said i was so glad we got out of league 1 or not posted at all I think that may have been better but it was late last night when I posted.

I've been one of the first to jump on monty in the past but I knew exactly what he meant even though his title could have been worded a little better.

Your right about Nathan Jones i called for him as he was a city fan and his record was not that bad and after riza seemed a good shout but looking at charlton last it seems a bit agriculture his style of play.
