He most definitely didn't win everything but a better performance than Monday. Took his goal well but needs to improve on the physical side and challenge defenders in the air. Was definitely fouled in the first half.

Hopefully will improve each game.

I posted it at half time. Maybe a bit premature, but do keep calling him out as it seems to mean he scores.

Just a little stat for those that dont rate salech

Kiefer Moore played 64 games for us scoring 25 goals

Yousef salech has played 62 games and scored 26 goals

I suppose that technically true but in fairness, most of Salech's games have been in League One.

Would be fairer to judge it when they've played the same amount of Championship games for us.

It'll all be quiet for a few weeks then this will start up again, just like it does with Rubin and Tanner. Some just don't rate him and won't have it

Took his goal very well last night although I did think he'd cocked up the chance initially. Made space for himself and put it nicely in the corner. Hopefully this boosts his confidence ready for Saturday.

So disappointed with him today. I hoped that goal against Norwich would boost his confidence but he looked completely void of confidence.

His performance today sums up all my issues with him. We need a new striker quickly.

Should have scored at least one today. The best chance was when Ng's shot hit the woodwork, but also thought he should have done better with his header from a corner.

Games like today is why we need another option up front. He has his off days where he is completely useless. We need to mix it up.

Its not just him; it's who he is playing against. McGuinness had him in his pocket; he wrestled all game rather than standing off. We know McGuinness turns like an oil tanker but they were almost intimate at times.

Robinson of 3 seasons ago would have found space and not engaged; we just need an alternative because, as my dad told me as a kid, there is always someone bigger and stronger, and Jousef found them today

Salech finds that out every game. He's not physical enough, very rarely will challenge for a header in the box and his movement is very poor.

I can't agree with you there if McGuiness had him in his pocket Salech wouldn't have had any chances. He missed a sitter and made infuriating decisions all game. Just a really bad day at the office for him.

That's fair up to a point but doesn't explain him miscontrolling the ball after Ng's shot hit the bar and only having a keeper on the floor to beat.

The miss happens, what disapointed me today was his decision making on giving away needless fouls. He's got to get more streetwise in this part of his game!

You know what it's like: you are not winning many duels, and you try too hard rather than naturally, and let it flow so things don't come off.

It was just not one of those days, IMO, his opponents got the better of him, and he struggled. The problem is we have no alternative: a washed-up Robinson or Davies, who is used as a 4th Winger when he really is a centre forward who at least offers the ball in behind

Yeah I agree we need a back up striker before Tuesday night. Hopefully someone who can play on the wing too so they can just move to the middle if Salech is having a tough game.

As they say give him the ball he'll score just don't do it enough...

Al, he is always marked when he gets the ball; his movement isn't great.

He tries to hard he should be more savvy today he tried muscling out player when all had to do was stand between him and ball he likes the contact but as we know refs are crap and rarely give free kick to striker over defender... but what is reall6 missing is someone playing off him at one point he won the ball knocked it towards where Tanner should been but Tanner was 15yrds further back and thats typical players to far from him to take advantage of him getting possession ...

Have you seen replay of it? Firstly he was facing goal ball rebounds back straight at him ! The problem was the ball landed under his feet and bounced away before he could react..... it looked bad miss but it was impossible for him to do anything given the position he was in and way ball reached him... now if ball had bounced up it would have been different either he scores or it is a bad miss... but it didn't so he was just unlucky... the one thing thought got wrong was with the through ball he went around keeper I thought he should have controlled it as he had time and space to control ball and then beat keeper ...

easily worse without him
he is our best striker
we play better with him playing for us

Re: Salech - Better or worse without him

There is no option other than him. Father time and injuries have caught up with CR, and I can barely recall Davies being given a shot as a very different type of striker....And that's the problem: when he is having a stinker (they all do) we don't have an alternative

Better without him.

Re: Salech - Better or worse without him

His lack of form is concerning. What's plan B? It can only be the ball in behind with Davies....Heaven forbid

Re: Salech - Better or worse without him

I’ve thought about this a lot, and I think the original poster has a valid point.

Cardiff want to control possession and dictate the tempo, but Salech hasn’t consistently retained the ball or linked play effectively. He offers a physical presence and a goal threat, but he doesn’t naturally provide the movement or frontline pressing this system appears to need.

A more mobile striker could drop deep, run the channels and drag defenders out of position. That would create space for someone like Moylan or Ashford to move beyond him, combine around the box and collect second balls. However, those players must remain close enough to support the striker, otherwise any number nine will become isolated.

This isn’t about Salech being a bad player. He may simply be better suited to a different approach. Cardiff needed another striker with a contrasting profile so BBM could change the attack depending on the opposition.

Perhaps the question isn’t whether we’re better without Salech. It’s whether we’re asking him to perform a role that doesn’t maximise his strengths?
