OFFICIAL - CALUM SCANLON RETURNS TO CARDIFF CITY ON LOAN
Cardiff City Football Club is delighted to announce the return of Calum Scanlon.
The 21-year-old rejoins on loan from Liverpool for the 2026/27 campaign.
Scanlon originally linked up with Brian Barry-Murphy’s side during the second half of the 2025/26 campaign, making eight appearances as the Bluebirds secured an immediate return to the second tier. The left-sided player can feature at both full-back and on the wing.
Calum previously appeared in the Sky Bet Championship for Millwall on loan, scoring once, against the Bluebirds.
Speaking on his return to the Welsh capital, Calum said: “It’s brilliant to be back. It’s great to see all the lads again, speak with the manager and be back in the city. It’s an amazing feeling.
“I’m ready to go. It’s been a positive pre-season getting minutes. It was good for me. My body is ready for the season.
“I’m grateful for the experience I’ve already had here and I can’t wait to make new memories at the Club.”
Welcome back to Cardiff City, Calum. Great to have you with us!

He was really highly rated as a youngster, then had a horrible injury, I thought he done ok with us last year, and we should see improvements this year, but he will have his hands full getting in front of Bagan.
Also I’m sure one of his sub appearances last year he came on and slotted into a central defenders position, or have i got that wrong ?

He's certainly not going to be back up for anyone! Otherwise Liverpool wouldn't have let him come here thats for sure...

I think he will improve this season with us ,good back up

Wez why would Liverpool let him come here just as a backup player? Serves the player or Liverpool no good at all? He's just sighned new contract they'll want him to play regularly not when someone is out injured he's to good not to be playing every week

Good solid signing. He'll quickly slot in too with knowing everyone already. We haven't seen the best of him yet either. I think he can play left wing as well as full back.

He’s a starter for me. We need pace in this division.

Hopefully the transfer conveyor belt has finally cranked into action for us...

Annis Undecided about him but unless he's starting games a pointless exercise! Think possible atraction is he could possibly play 3 positions on left but that doesn't always work playing different position every other week! Got to trust bbm but we certainly need some proven quality in very soon

To be fair, Liverpool have also given him a long term contract so they must rate him.
Still very young at 21 too so plenty of time for him to fulfil potential.

He says he's fully fit and raring to go ... he was in pools pre season setup so let's hope he stays fit and proves he's worth new contract

So different views are not welcome?
I will never be like a sheep
Very happy when we signed Kellyman and Trott
Funny hardly any posts and a fake name

Their fans on X seem to think he was brilliant in pre season for them and it’s a shame he’s not being given a go amongst the team this season which can only be a good sign.

Just named my account after my favourite Cardiff player and I didn't say you couldn't have an opinion.... Just made a slight tiny little joke.... my names Ellis and I only joined a week ago but I've read for many. Meany years! We spoke a long time back I'm not trying to hide and I also didn't expect this to cause you upset!

I think it’s a good signing personally.
Young, quick and likely to improve under BBM hopefully.
Can challenge Bagan, can rotate if he proves himself and can even play further forward on the wing.
Still at Liverpool at age 21 means he certainly has something about him.

That's fair enough amd maybe I have some pent up frustration from the last few years reading this forum. I'll check myself next time although I think the comments I've left are pretty fair! Enjoy the weekend and bring on Monday!
