So what is the backroom set-up now?

A great coach Tom Hutton (u18 head coach) has left - for League 1 Oxford
Hutton is one of the Coaches that should be Credited for all the players that have come through the Accademy.



The head of first team performance analysis has gone to Leeds.


Darren Purse under-21's coach has gone to Sligo bottom of the league of Ireland.

It leaves a lot of gaps in the academy that need to be sorted ASAP.

I agree we do and a few like you said who know the Club.

I hear Pep is still looking for a job.

They might promote Lee Kendall from the academy

All 3 were long time employees - 17, 8 and 5 years I think. Plus Gavin Ward.

Is this a much higher turnover than usual so close to the start of a season?

Bit of a worry if it is, plus none of the 4 replaced yet.

Would think replacing backroom staff is a lot less complicated than players - no 'sell before you can buy' orders from Tan - just one wage stops, another one starts.

He will want his own men in; I expect him to raid Man City, maybe Leicester and any other contacts at other clubs that he did know at Man City, or through the likes of Moresca. He will be working on it, and we will get better quality replacements, I'm sure.

This is a lot of upheaval so close to the start of the season that affects all the age groups.

Poor BBM, the guys not a magician. So much pressure on his shoulders yet he seems to just get on with it which is great. There is still so much to sort out in the background it seems. I wonder how many people around him are helping him with all this. I just can't see the likes of Ken and Dalman being pillers of support.

It's been a weird pre season so far. Not many friendlies arranged, no new signings, backroom staff leaving, not much of a buzz about the place yet. Fingers crossed, come the Roma game, lots of things will have clicked into place. No surprise season tickets are down though!

Yeah - your post sums up a lot of my thinking - the anticipation for this season seems very muted, when it should be upbeat.

Why do 3/4 long term backroom staff leave after a successful promotion season and return to the Championship when they didn't leave after relegation the previous season or the previous 3 when we were struggling?

Ward went before the last game. The other 3 have, at different times, been very publicly praised by BBM, but have all gone to a wide variety of clubs - bigger (Leeds), smaller (Oxford) and tiny (Sligo) - almost like they are just happy to get out. There were two coaching/analyst appointments early last season (Lovelady and Foulkes) who seemed to leave on the QT almost as soon as they started.

Makes me feel there is something just a bit off behind the scenes. Heard of a manager losing the dressing room, not heard of a manager losing the backroom.

Is it a stretch to say this season is beginning to feel like a bands 'difficult second album'?
