ASHFORD NEW ROLE?

Thu Aug 06, 2026 9:50 am

I thought against roma this position suited him he is small guy a nightmare for big defenders in one sense he is quick and does have the ability to turn on a sixpence, and i think bbm is bringing out the best in him.
It's all about confidence, and I really hope he pushes on this season and is not benched because of our new signing, he is at the stage where bagan was a while back, will he cement his place I hope he is given the game time in the championship this season ,he is my tip for this season to be the unexpected suprise, just as I tipped bagan to be a while back ,

"go on lad show them what you can do ".

Still have my doubts about Ashford but he has done well in pre-season in that position.

Problem he has is that Rubin has the position when he plays, Moylan can also play there. But maybe if he keeps working hard he will get his chance there.

I agree. Id love to see a bit of aggression or killer instinct coached into him. I never have an issue seeing him in the starting 11 as there are games where his floaty style works... more consistant impacts to games is needed. I thought he'd absolutely rip up L1, but he didnt.

Having said all that, he has been used out of position/on the wing more often than not. We all agree he's a 10 but there is strong competition there.

Would you be devastated if he left? Im not sure I would... but Id love to see him crack on and challenge the 15/20 goals numbers.

Fair comment, but rubin maybe out for a while so he may get his chance ,or as a super sub in this position as opposed to the wing

I hope he takes whatever chance is given to him; but we need to see more I'd say.

What is Ashford position? Certainly not striker as his ratio of shots goals is poor... misses good chances everytime..
