Official - Jesper Daland leaves on loan

Tue Aug 04, 2026 8:49 am

Jesper Daland has completed a loan move to Norwegian side Viking FK until January 31st, 2027.

The central defender joined the Bluebirds in 2024 and has made 23 competitive appearances for the Club.

After spending last season away on loan with Fortuna Düsseldorf, Jesper now returns to his homeland with Viking, who are defending champions of the Eliteserien. They currently sit second in the table, after 15 matches played of the 2026 season.

We’d like to wish Jesper the best of luck during his time away from South Wales.

A deal has been agreed for Jesper Daland to leave Cardiff City.

He will sign for Norwegian side Viking on loan, with an option to buy.

Contract until 2028, hopefully he does well there and they buy him.

We better be bringing in a minimum of 2 new centre backs, otherwise it makes no sense letting Daland go.

In the games without Lawlor last season, we averaged conceding 1.6 goals per game. That can easily rise to 2 goals per game at Championship level, meaning we can concede over 90 goals and get relegated.

I'm unsure why Daland is the one getting offloaded when aside from Lawlor, all our other centre backs struggled at League 1 level last season. We relied on young Lawlor to hold our defence together, plus our domination of possession in an inferior League 1 league masked how poor our centre backs really are.

If we don't significantly strengthen our defence, we will simply concede too many goals and go straight back down. I don't think Daland is as poor as some of our other centre backs, so I'm surprised BBM hasn't taken a good look at him in pre season.

I guess his wages have come into the decision to let him go again, but we definitely need to bring in 2 new centre backs, otherwise it's going to be a long season.

The lack of centre back cover does worry me slightly.

Chambers nowhere near good enough at Championship level.

It’s odd to me that BBM has complete conviction and belief in developing the entire squad, but then didn’t fancy Daland at all. Always felt like there was enough raw positives about Daland’s game that BBM would’ve fancied him

I never knew he was still around.

He's been like Jasper the ghost.
