West Ham have held positive talks with Cardiff City over a deal for Dylan Lawlor, with talks expected to continue in the coming days.

Cardiff are willing to sell Lawlor and have given full permission for him to talk to West Ham.

West Ham:

Although a deal is a way of being reached, the 20-year-old is the most advanced out of our centre-back targets.

Very disappointing to hear that the club are willing to sell him so early in his career.

A bit like Ramsey all over again.

Can't wait to cash in.

I assume BBM approves of this?

My stance on this is how can we convince players like jens dhal that cardiff is the place to come and sell players the dream if they are going to see us selling our best talent

Losing Dylan would be a massive blow but would also send out the wrong message to potential signings in my opinion

I agree on the ‘disappointment’, if it were to happen, but it’s nowhere near a ‘Rambo’ situation! :ayatollah:
This is OUR club, not Vincent Tan’s! He is a temporary custodian and will be judged on the state he leaves us in when he leaves!

Very disappointing if this is true.

I know every player has their price but it doesn't say a lot about our ambition if this is one of the first moves we make when promoted back to the Championship.

Lawlor is a quality player that will only get better. He's not too dissimilar in style and stature to the Spanish no.22 that just won young player of the world cup.

Unless it's for stupid money, we simply cannot sell this player. He would be last in line for me out of every single player in our squad.

How can BBM be OK with this.

I was a fan when it all started - selling Toshack to Liverpool. When will we ever learn?

Seriously, we should be keeping him, at least for 2 season's, he'll be worth more in 2 years.
Build around him, stabilise the team.

And I’m guessing even if he is sold, BBM will get f**k all to spend again.

Same old shit will be spun by the board “we tried but were unable to deals over the line”

We’ll be in the basement of the Championship fighting for our lives again.

What if there's an optimistic view that we sell for >10Mill, re-buy someone with more experience at this level for 25% of that figure, and strengthen?

As good as Lawler is, he's started 58% of a single L1 season with 6 Wales caps where his competition is Chris Mepham. He's a prospect that any club in the UK our size would sell in the same circumstances. It's the food chain. If good money comes in, we sell. It's black and white for Cardiff City and as someone said, has been since the Toshack days.

What if Lawler isn't ready for the championship yet (I don't think this is the case, but he's untested). It's a punt for West Ham and something they can clearly afford.

Perhaps BBM as I say has been told if you want to buy players you have to sell, but i agree what a start to a season back in the championship sell your best.

If Lawlor is first pick for Wales at centre back then he's more than ready for the Championship.

Yet again, a gem of a player breaks through the youth system and the first genuine bid we get from another Championship club, we fold and sell. Absolutely pathetic and unambitious. Really sticks in the throat.

Good luck with extra ST sales City.

Personally I wanted to see lawlor playing in a blue city shirt not playing ahainst us in a claret and blue shirt ,if he goes it will be a very depressive start to the season facing wrexham who have just signed a player for over 7 million a d we let our best go.
I did want to see lawlor develop with us and show the championship what a good player ge is and to help us develop back in the championship and with it getting close to the start of the season I am sure if he goes it will disrupt the confidence of the whole team.
I hope he stays.

I'd be very disappointed, but nothing has happened yet; let's wait and see and judge by actions, not suggestions and guesses about the price received and how it's used to develop the team further.

That’s a ‘discussion’ to me. It’s a view, and one I concur with

We KNOW nothing as it stands, yet even the possibility of a is being used to ‘bash’ the club by a few!

What if we got £10m+ (and a sell on clause) for a player who wants to move on, which I’m not convinced he is currently desperate for? :?

How would ‘the club’ be perceived then? Because THAT is the point to comment on any deal and/or the club’s handling of it! :ayatollah:

Not correct!

Dylan Lawlor signed a new three-year contract with Cardiff City in August 2025, keeping him at the club until 30 June 2028 (two more years)

If anything, it gives our club ‘options’ and keeps his price to others more than healthy from a Bluebird point of view :ayatollah:

Or it shows players that they can come here, impress under BBM and then we won’t get in their way if a move to a big club comes in

Well, it can be discussed, but people saying things like it will be bugger all, and we won't spend the money are negative and probably total nonsense, but I suppose you are right; that's what a message board sometimes is :laughing6:

The main discussion comes when we can see the deal and the outcome of the money; every club is a selling club if the price is right.

Works for teams like Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth, and then hopefully we’ll reach a stage where a club like West Ham becomes a sideways move.

People on here always begging to follow their model and now it looks like we could be they’re complaining

Lawlor was our only good centre back last season and it will be a disaster if we lose him.

However, we won't be good enough to dominate possession at Championship level, so I hope if we sell, the money will be used to bring in more powerful, streetwise centre backs who can actually defend.

I would much rather us keep Lawlor and sell Chambers, Fish and Osho, who all struggled in League 1 last season and are nowhere near good enough for the Championship.

Look at our record against the better teams in League 1 last season and it's obvious we will concede loads of goals in the Championship with our current defenders. We will get relegated unless our defence is significantly improved.
