Tonight at 10pm is probably the most pointless game of the entire tournament.
I am of course talking about France v England to decide who finishes third. A game nobody goes into the World Cup wanting to play.
Sat Jul 18, 2026 9:20 pm
I'm not watching the game because I think it's pointless, but England are 2-0 up early on.

I’m watching and so far England have been very good value for money, and could have been 3-0 up by the quarter time (drinks) break with excellent goals from Rice and Konsa
It is a ‘
nothing game’ in real terms but better to play well and win, if it has to be played!
Sat Jul 18, 2026 9:48 pm
England, and Rice in particular, are rampant right now!
HALF-TIME: FRANCE 0 - 4 ENGLAND (
45+5 mins)
D. Rice (3')
E. Konsa (18')
B. Saka (37', 45'+1)
Sat Jul 18, 2026 10:12 pm
After a couple of half-time changes from England and four from France, a soft play from England sees France pull a goal back after 48 minutes
LATEST: FRANCE 1 - 4 ENGLAND (48 mins)
France scorer:
K. Mbappe (48’)
England scorers:
D. Rice (3')
E. Konsa (18')
B. Saka (37', 45'+1)
Sat Jul 18, 2026 10:18 pm
This game is turning into a thriller with both sides taking it to the other!
France are a lot more ‘with it’ this second half and get another goal back through
LATEST: FRANCE 2 - 4 ENGLAND (
54 mins)
France scorers:
K. Mbappe (48’)
B. Barcola (54’)
England scorers:
D. Rice (3')
E. Konsa (18')

Sat Jul 18, 2026 10:31 pm
The comeback is on, as Kilian Mbappe becomes the highest ever scorer in World Cup football; overtaking Lionel Messi
LATEST: FRANCE 3 - 4 ENGLAND (
66 mins)
France scorers:
K. Mbappe (48’, 66’)
B. Barcola (54’)
England scorers:
D. Rice (3')

Hell of a game this
Sat Jul 18, 2026 10:33 pm
What a game it's definitely a game of two halves at the moment some great goals scored so far !!!
Sat Jul 18, 2026 10:41 pm
La France really should be level, as they tear the England defence a now one!
I can’t see this game not having more goals, and currently La France are looking the more likely to get one/them!
English-born France homme, Olise, has conspired to keep England in front when it was easier to score!
LATEST: FRANCE 3 - 4 ENGLAND (
77 mins)
France scorers:
K. Mbappe (48’, 66’)
B. Barcola (54’)
England scorers:
D. Rice (3')
E. Konsa (18')
B. Saka (37', 45'+1)
Sat Jul 18, 2026 10:46 pm
Now England conspire to keep France in the game with a crazy miss, before La France do exactly the same with a mad miss from Dembele!
This game is exciting to watch regardless of its (relative) pointlessness in any real terms, and I’m enjoying it!
LATEST: FRANCE 3 - 4 ENGLAND (
83 mins)
France scorers:
K. Mbappe (48’, 66’)
B. Barcola (54’)
England scorers:
D. Rice (3')
E. Konsa (18')
B. Saka (37', 45'+1)
Sat Jul 18, 2026 10:50 pm
PENALTY! ENGLAND!Spence brought down in the box and no hesitation from the referee, who points straight to the spot!
Jude Bellingham forgoes the opportunity and gives it to Saka, who scores his hat-trick!
LATEST: FRANCE 3 - 5 ENGLAND (
66 mins)
France scorers:
K. Mbappe (48’, 66’)
B. Barcola (54’)
England scorers:
D. Rice (3')
E. Konsa (18')
B. Saka (37', 45'+1, 86’)
Sat Jul 18, 2026 11:01 pm
And not for the first time, France pull a goal back to take them a single goal behind!
Then Jude Bellingham goes up the other end and scores England’s 6th goal with a great effort!
This is now the highest scoring 3rd/4th place game in World Cip history!
FINAL SCORE: FRANCE 4 - 6 ENGLAND (
90+8 mins)
France scorers:
K. Mbappé (48', 66')
B. Barcola (54')
O. Dembélé (90'+6)
England scorers:
D. Rice (3')
E. Konsa (18')
B. Saka (37', 45'+1, 87' pen)
J. Bellingham (90'+8)

Didn't want that game to end what a game end to end football!!!!

The final has got a lot to live upto tomorrow!!

Chris,
Absolutely loved it

World Cup final at 8pm.
Hopefully we see Spain beat Argentina.

It was enjoyable but it was only an exhibition match.
France only decided to put the effort in as they were embarrassing themselves. As soon as the real France turned up, England true to form started to crumble. With no exaggeration France could have hit 10 in the second half.
Any of those misguided pundits who think this is the dawning of an all conquering England team need to give their heads a wobble.

As ‘
exhibition’ games go, it was a very good one; and the England players got a medal (effectively bronze) at the end of it, which is more than France got!
France could/should have scored more, but they didn’t take the game seriously until they were 4-0 down @ half-time!
I appreciate you don’t want England to have any perceived ‘
success’ but they scored 6 goals themselves, and were more ‘
up’ for the game than their opponents @ kick off
Good on them, I say; and the only ‘
head wobbles’ should go to those who think England didn’t play their part in what was the most entertaining game of the tournament!

Half time in the World Cup final tonight will last up to half an hour, due to a half time music show.
I'll be in a London pub for it, so at least gives me more time to get a drink

It’s mad, Ned! But we know it’s all USA-centric!
My worry is that this will become the ‘norm’ going forward, as FIFA only know the value of
$money and not football as a worldwide competition

England v France was the best game of the World Cup so far!
Thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Trump’s already pressuring FIFA (Infantino) to take the World Cup back to the USA again ASAP!
Apparently, Trump said, “
No one knows soccer like I do! I created the best soccer World Cup in the history of the world. No one did it better than me! That’s the truth!”
The game itself is just warming up and some ‘
tasty’ challenges going in but no bookings as of yet!
I think Marc Cucurella will be a huge influence on this game, if he can set the tone of the game!
The quarter time whistle goes, so Coca Cola, Apple, and Budweiser (other companies are available) can get their plugs in!
LATEST SCORE: ESPANA 0 - 0 ARGENTINA (not twinned with the Falkland Islands) (
25 minutes)

The game is a bit like opera. You know they are super talented, and this is elite, but it's boring.

Clearly watching a different game to you, as I’ve enjoyed it so far!
Mind you, I’ve got it on BBC, and you might be watching ITV and the Advert Channel?
The Argentine’s have been doing their usual dirty tricks, and Spain have responded well without taking a deserved lead
The referee has been very lenient but he’s finally taken a yellow card out of his pocket and booked an Argentine ‘
pull’ on a Spaniard. The offender was substituted shortly after
LATEST SCORE: SPAIN 0 - 0 ARGENTINA (
45 minutes)
