Absolutely shocking news, obviously thoughts to her loved ones.

Thankfully it seems the murderer has been arrested, a 26-year-old man.

Politically motivated or a chancer?

Time will tell, mate!

Devon and Cornwall Police held a press conference this afternoon, announcing they had arrested a 26-year old white British national in connection with the tragedy.

Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman told reporters that there was “no information” at this time to suggest the murder was a “politically motivated crime.”

What an incredibly sad and senseless thing to do!

Why was his colour mentioned? The animal who slaughtered his wife and two wee girls wasn’t described as black. It’s completely unnecessary and socially divisive.

Jock, I don’t think it’s uncommon in either direction to include the colour of a suspect. The issue for me, as we’ve seen too many times, is when the public reaction is mainly gauged on that information

The original ‘suspect’ has been released and police say he is "no longer part of the investigation" into the former MPs death, so that part of the process, including anonymity, has seemingly worked

Police also say their investigation is "moving at a significant pace", so hopefully more news soon

I honestly can’t recall a suspect being described as black, not in recent years anyway.
Hope plod get the rat who done it, there was much she said I didn’t agree with, but ultimately she was an old woman living alone.

Jock, I had a check and apparently it varies according to the circumstances:

When a suspect is at large, police may include ethnicity as one part of a physical description, alongside age, height, clothing, hair, distinguishing marks, and direction of travel, if they believe it could help identify the person.

When an arrest is made, it can be less relevant to mention ethnicity, although this can vary from police force to police force

As for Ann Widdicombe, I agree that whilst she was a fierce politician, she was latterly an elderly lady just living out her life

Cry me a river again. WTF does it matter the most important thing here is catching the murder no matter what, not the feelings of snowflakes that get offend by every little step.

That was my point.
Yet for the sake of social cohesion, when two economic migrants raped a scots girl, the police only described one attacker as , wearing beige trousers.

So was it murder & they're just not looking for anyone yet or was it not murder & that's why they're not looking for anyone?

I thought it was pretty clear that it was a murder, but I’m not sure you read the above correctly, as they’ve now arrested a second individual in South Yorkshire and have stated they are ‘not looking for anyone else

Yeah I somehow missed that bit while reading it. I guess it didn't register correctly in my little brain after just waking up so thanks for pointing out the error of my ways.

Well, you are a bit behind (time-wise) but my point was simply that you appeared to have missed the ‘second arrest’ bit

No dramas!

Suspect rearrested on suspicion of terrorism acts. Terrorism officers now taken over the case and Mahmood making a statement on it this afternoon. Is anyone other than the Senior Police officers at Devon and Cornwall surprised ?

You'd guess so but who knows. The only other thing it could have been really was a burglary gone wrong. Which is what I presumed when the police said it's not politically motivated

An utterly horrific act and a heartbreaking way for a remarkable woman to leave this earth. We can only take comfort that in her own words she is reunited with her beloved parents and brother.

No point in any of us speculating any further until the investigation is concluded and the facts are known.
