Cardiff City’s 1st Home Friendly of the Season ended EMBARRA

I hope I'm not reading to much into today. I was in the crowd but no Ruben or Lawlor makes me nervous of transfer talk!

Very simply, friendly or not, 6-0 defeats are rare, even rarer at home and comical for a team that is on a high after a successful promotion season.

I get the fitness but when you cant find a pass to a player less than 10 yards away, its criminal.

This line up? A sign of things to come?

What line up the 1st half one or 2nd half one? You may make vald points previously but to suggest this is a starting lineup for 1st game is bonkers considering missing players and mixed and matched team each half! bbm is after sighnings nothing more to be said until start season... today's game was a poor choice considering their readiness and experience compared to ours a total mismatch.....

More like lack of right investment... that seems to have been partly addressed time will tell if bbm can improve things even more... but your right tan needs to go

I sat through it, it was awful. Some of the youngsters were terrible on the ball.

No over-reaction yet. Tank looked sharp in his 5 mins.

Their keeper was decent. Ours were bad.

The highlight was the sprinkler drenching the first few rows at the start.

I'm talking generically. Not that either halfs side was a starting lineup, just the point that we may have been looking at the whole squad for next season over the entire game.

I do think that some fans will be needing a massive reality check though come the start of the season. Sport, and football, is about levels. There are not many genuine Championship quality (middle to top standard) players in the squad. That includes our youngsters.

Trott, Lawlor (potentially), Rubin (potentially), Salech, Kellyman (and he isn't even ours!)...That's about it.

I can't name one player in the squad that's ripped it up at Championship level for a whole season. It's going to be a long slog. If we are anywhere near a mid-table finish I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I do agree that people need to control their expectations.

I've seen people talk about competing for top eight, I just don't see that happening. I'm not being negative, just realistic.

I do think a mid table finish is a realistic ambition, with the right five or so additions.

But this will be a strong league and I always say that if you set expectations too high, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

We played a mix of first team and youth team in each half against a Europa League side.

They are virtually all our Squad players for this season.

This shows we need some good signings, thankfully we can all see it very early on.

Sometimes the opposition is just better. They play at a much higher quality than us and have better players. Is what it is. Nothing for people to cry over.

Rubin has the potential to be a top-level Championship player. However, he hasn't proven it yet. Would most mid-level clubs have him? Of course.

There's naunce to this. At times we have seen him turn games on its head with a moment of skill. However this has not been regular enough to class him as top-level. It's the consistency that needs to be addressed.

There's levels to sport. And consistency plays a massive factor in whether or not someone will be mid-level or top-tier.

I thought he had potential years ago but now unfortunately he’s a busted flush.

We are taking a step up from last season - We need to add to this squad Friendly or No Friendly .

Not the opposite to you, it’s just my view that I don’t take anything regarding results in a friendly.

You’re 100% right about the price as I mentioned on the thread about Roma. The prices set are ridiculous.

I think BBM tool it seriously and did not look happy at all.

I don’t think losing 6-0 in any circumstance is a worth while exercise, friendly or not. These are supposed to be professional sportsmen who take pride in themselves and playing for the club.

I haven’t seen the game but by all accounts there was no fight or passion shown and hardly any positive’s. The Championship is going to be a really tough league this season with the teams in it. We need players who are going to stand up to the challenge when things aren’t going our way and my biggest concern is that we haven’t got those players

No doubt we need quality players in. Only thing I will say is this side best Forest in EL away last season, so they are a decent side, plus they’d already played 3 preseason games. The game against us was their 4th pre season game and it was our 1st. Not saying it as an excuse, but they are a better side than us as they got to the last 16 in EL last season, only lost on pens over 2 legs v forest, and they’d already played 3 matches prior to playing us, so you would have expected them to win all day long!

8 of our regulars kicked off this game so what does that say ?they where so unbelievably unfit, or could not cope with better opposition ,this is why we have so called friendlies but we need new players into this side to inject some "Hwyl"

It was not a good result even for a friendly but you do need to include the context of it being our first friendly and Midtjylland's fourth - they were ahead of us in preparations due to their European game next week. They are also better than any team in the Championship.

Absolutely right. Pre-season is about running and building an engine, and we aren't fit yet. We just got caught out by a team much further along in their fitness program.

But there's method to BBM’s madness here. It’s a clever bit of man-management to give them a harsh reality check in the early preseason. If any of them thought we'd just coast through because of last season, they know different now. It's a step up and we need to recruit and improve. They won't want to be embarrassed like that again; the Ireland trip will tell us a lot about their character. it also sends a message to Tan and the board: we need those reinforcements asap.
