Re: " FIFA World Cup thread "

I'm watching England v New Zealand and I know it's a friendly, but NZ are a very poor team.

If they were in the European qualifying section, they'd have no chance of reaching this tournament.

Yeah agree.

Same with teams like Haiti. What’s all that about?!

Iran have been told must come into usa for game and leave straight after game despite all 3 games being played there? That's against fifa rules apparently.. this hoes along with other officials of Iran federation being refused visa into usa
.... if I was Iran a
I would wait until day before game and say due to usa interference and restrictions on staff we have no choice but to leave WC? That should cause a stir

Listening to people having right nightmares getting in to the USA now too. Scottish bloke today had his ESTA (visa) refused even though he’d been in the states on the same ESTA 8 months ago (they are valid for two years) saying they want him to have a police check! His flight goes Thursday and he reckons he’s spent over £10k already and now he might never get there anyway…..the greatest country in the world :laughing6:

More than one Scots having problems... approved then refused presumably they arranged everything after approval but now denied estsa...its a shambles and probably get worse as more fans start to travel

I just read about an England fan who was refused entry (having already spent 10k) even though he was allowed on the same ESTA 9 months ago (they last 2 years). At the moment it seems totally random who may or may not be allowed entry & is based on some unknown & maybe personal criteria.

The Iranian team should just pack their bags & leave, f**k FIFA & its corrupt leadership. They're apparently staying in Mexico between games so they may not even be allowed entry from one game to the next which is awful for them & they don't even have most of their support staff because they weren't allowed visas in the first place.

This WC just gets worse every day & a ball has yet to be kicked.

I remember people saying the Qatar and Russia World Cups would be a disaster but all the noise around it was largely ignored once the football started.

Sure it'll be the same with this World Cup. Looking forward to it starting on Thursday.

Who's going to buy them monty? Yanks only interested in their team lots fans not travelled or are barred.... the fanatical ones are to scared to go to games as I.C.E agents be ready to arrest them! Suspect infantino just say greatest WC ever record crowds who in fifa is going to go against him?

It sounds like its going to turn into a sh.t show, quatar was not much better to many rules & regulations it's the way these tournaments are heading
Do they not know that its out of reach for the likes of me average fan living on a certain ammount of money,
on principle I would not pay the sort of money they ask for in any case

It's about time someone stood upto all these interferences from trump? Now Iranian fans have had their tickets revoked so none allowed to watch games with Iran... hope Iran at last minute pull out citing lack of backroom staff and interference from trump? It's getting pathetic now infantino has lost control of his competition rules broken but the silence is deafening from him.

Agree monty but whilst we can dislike what Iran does to its people what Trump.is fingers is worse simply because its supposed to be a democracy with laws to prevent what he's done and doing...so to me he's as bad as Iranian mullahs without the deaths ....WC and football in general is supposed to be political interference free? fifa do have rules to punish countries that politically interfere in its running but infantino as Said sfa about the ref the teams background staff fans all make this a shiiiite WC experience what's next?

I agree. There's also the question of safety for Iranian supporters, that's why their team have to have their base in Mexico before travelling to the US for their matches.

I am surprised that america did not try to ban them from taking part just like Russia who have not featured in hardly any tournaments over the last 4 years

Not sure they could otherwise it would cause fifa to suspend usa dor political interference this I presume is why Italy wouldn't entertain taking itsns place ...remember there was a call for it and trump would do it if could that's for sure.... so no Iranian fans at any games is result...... statement by infantino about the ref? Basically its nothing to do with us up to usa who hits in country? No support for him no appeal to let him in either! Remember trump called Somalians trash or similar so maybe thats why he's banned him?

I think Iran would be very likely to win that. They've got a decent team and football is one of the few sports that the USA aren't at the very top in.

Re: " FIFA World Cup 2026 thread " Players time wasting

Wed Jun 10, 2026 4:08 pm

Time-saving measures for goal-kicks, throw-ins and substitutions

Fixing timewasting has been one of Collina's top issues for quite a few years.

At the Qatar World Cup in 2022, the Italian told his officials to be precise and add everything on to stoppage time.

The opening matches all exceeded 100 minutes, with 24 minutes added on across both halves for England's 6-2 win over Iran.

For this World Cup, the plan is to make sure players get on with the game and save lost time this way.

The idea is not strict enforcement, but deterrent measures to alter player behaviour.

Countdowns for goal-kicks and throw-ins (five seconds): If a player deliberately delays the restart of play, a goal-kick could become a corner or the throw given to the opposition.

The count will not begin when the ball goes out of play. A referee will choose to activate it if a player is taking too long.

Like the eight-second countdown after a goalkeeper has caught the ball, the referee will visibly make a count by moving an arm up and down.

This law change should be a deterrent to goalkeepers who take a long time over their kicks towards the end of games.

Previously, the only tool a referee would really have is to show one yellow card. And the keeper might just keep on doing it knowing an official is not likely to book them twice and be forced to send them off.

It is hoped that conceding a corner which could lead to conceding a goal is a more effective deterrent.

Time-limited substitutions (10 seconds): Substituted players have 10 seconds to leave the field at the nearest point. If they fail to do so, the substitute cannot enter the field for at least one minute and the team must play with 10 players.

There are a couple of exemptions - if a player is injured or there are security concerns about where they can go off, though the latter should not be an issue at the World Cup.

The new law says that the substitute will not be able to come on until play next stops. That means a team could in theory be left with 10 players for several minutes.

Take the international friendly between Japan and Iceland on 31 May.

An Iceland player took too long to leave the field, so the team had to play with 10 men for more than two minutes. The first time play stopped was when Koki Ogawa scored the only goal of the game for Japan.

The idea is not to make teams play with 10 men, but to make it such a clear deterrent that players do not waste time on substitutions.

Re: " FIFA World Cup 2026 thread "

Wed Jun 10, 2026 4:23 pm

All good sensible rules that should stop the ridiculous time wasting that seems to start earlier every game.

The biggest thing they need to stop for me is defensive players falling down holding their head so that the ref blows for a head injury thereby stopping the attack of the other team & as soon as play is stopped the player suddenly jumps up like he's a jack in the box & off he trots, smirking to his team mates.

World Cup ticket sales have been a disaster.

FIFA held back tickets to create artificial scarcity, launched its own resale platform with a 15% fee for both buyers and sellers, and now there are still 180,000 tickets available for purchase.

Was going to post that now so just add they're giving away at least 2k tickets to locals for the Scots game..... annis the problem is yanks don't support football teams outside their own so without the countries fans stadiums are going to be half empty at best... and the countries with great support within usa wont have that support as I.C.E and immigration will be waiting to grab Hispanic and other non white fans! But garauntee get a load of BS from infantino about how many fans attending games
