Something something lasting impressions but given he’s got history for throwing his toys out of the pram when he hasn’t been guaranteed a starting role, I wonder if he’s down the same when being told at the negotiating table that he’s not a guaranteed starter next year

I think this is another example of BBM being ruthless.

Don't forget that one of the first things he did when he came into the club was tell Ralls and Rinomhota that they weren't needed.

He's also told Gavin Ward that he won't be renewing his contract.

So many posters saying it's definitely BBM's decision, he has a plan, love how ruthless he is etc etc. I doubt very much this was his decision. More like Tan is hoping to get another promotion on a shoestring after getting lucky last season.

Wake up guys, Tan makes the decisions :banghead:

100%

This is a board deck due to his wages .

BBM can get who he wants in as long as it stays in his small budget.

One of our best players without a doubt.

I expected chambers to go, but the player of the year, and players player of the year ,you would have thought he would be the last player to leave.

Met him at the awards and he come across well respected by players and had a lot of time to chat as players was getting ready to hit the town.

I think he deserved 1 more year after his contribution last season but people forget he was loaned out twice when he was here in the championship with us as he simply wasn’t good enough or ready to play at that level so if I had to sacrifice 1 out of 3 with Bagan, NG and Wintle it be Wintle as he can be replaced.

I don’t know why supporters latch onto social media posts when players do this saying it’s out of his control obviously he’s gonna say that when he’s out of contract and waiting on new deal, no player isn’t gonna say ‘I didn’t wanna sign a new deal I want out’ so it’s easy for players to hide behind putting things like that to paint BBM and the board as the ones in the wrong.

To be completely honest I think he’s tainted himself in a bad light now putting that in the post as it wasn’t needed to be put out and it’s massively disrespectful towards the club so in a way glad he ain’t with us.

No need for the out of his control part in his post though is it?

I think it’s massively disrespectful towards the club and us fans all he needed to do is thank the club and fans wish us well etc.

Shows the character that has been highlighted in the past with him having a dig like that.

He was fantastic last season I think league 1 is his level he was poor in championship for us.. fingers crossed BBM got someone lined up but he is a big admirer of Eli King and lot in the camp at the awards said he is one of the best in the middle of the park in training.

Just his way of saying it wasn't his decision. Nothing disrespectful about that.

On your other point, he wasn't as good in the championship for us but that was under bulut, most of our players were rubbish under bulut but under BBM he's been fantastic and would have been in the championship too under BBM.

Totally agree Monty. Crazy decision not to sign him up again.

It's going to be league one and two players coming in plus more youngsters coming up from the academy.

Agree with this, especially re Chambers/Wintle, what is don't understand is why BBM goes along with it, he could just tell Tan to shove it! He wouldn't be unemployed very long, shows with Burnleys interest.

Madness to let Wintle go.
Easily player of the season.
Controlled many of our matches this season from the base of our midfield.
Unless the club have great ambition and finance to match that and recruit top quality replacements, I see no logic in this decision.
Only time will tell!

I can understand why people are shocked due to a good L1 season - but ask yourself this, if we want to be competing in the top half of the championship, is Wintle that man? For me, no.

He is also certainly someone I wouldn't want in a more likely bottom end scrap. A Plymouth/Luton etc will be a good move.

I doubt he'll join a club that finishes above us, put it that way...

Strong management, whoever made the call.

Thanks for last season Ryan. Good luck.

I thought we would have to bargain hunt in the lower leagues this season as well , however the new ffp rules will benefit us massively and give us a lot more wiggle room than if they had stuck to the old rules , im now more optimistic we will be able to shop at a much higher level

Hope his replacement is a good un, because at 30 he is coming to twighlight of career but we shipped many goals wen he wasn't playing last season. Problem in previous championship seasons wasn't Wintle but managers being hopeless.

Wintle wanted to stay, I'm guessing on at least his current contract. BBM or Tan decided against it, I'm sure this applies to a few first team players, don't see Chambers, Turnbull, Robinson getting renewed next year either. Wintle had a great season but never looked good enough at Championship level and he's not a kid either, would he have looked the part under BBM in our current system? Probably, but I suspect we can get someone else to fulfill that role for us.

We must have experienced Championship campaigners in that team next season. You need those leaders when things get tough.
Wintle was in his prime - perfect age. I find it odd that he'd get jettisoned right after being acknowledged by his peers and supporters as the stand out player.

I'd really like to know exactly what went on there and the reasons behind this.

No, Gavin Ward the goalkeeping coach.

I think this is a smart move by the club IMO.

Wintle, and a few others may I add, were far below the standard required for Champ football in the past.

Wintle, albeit shone this year but let's be fair, the standard between L1 and Champ is incredibly wide now.

Champ is quicker and more technical. Both things I think Wintle is lacking.

Good luck to him, I don't like his choice of wording on his post but he's obviously under the impression he done enough.

I wouldn’t moaned if he had a 1 year extension as on the basis of last season I think everyone could say it was deserved.

I think it’s disrespectful on the basis BBM and the club could argue differently so leave what happened in regards to negotiations behind closed doors, I’d like to think he didn’t mean it in a disrespectful way but was definitely unnecessary to add that in.

I am sad to see him go and think he could have done a job at championship level, but I have trust in BBM, and maybe he feels we need someone with more mobility or a better passing range.. who knows. What is for certain is we will need a top player in this role..

We also don’t know what Wintle was asking for in terms of a contract, or if the circumstances he refers to have nothing to do with football and might be family related.

Regardless I wish him all the best and really hope we invest wisely in this position.

We'll agree to disagree. Just his way of telling the fans he didn't want to leave. Lots of players do the same in that situation.

I'm sure if BBM or the club took offence or wanted to tell their side of the story they certainly could do but I doubt any offence was taken by either.

Interesting that some are saying this is a "big mistake by us".

I remember people saying similar when BBM decided to let Ralls go. They said we'd regret it.

Spoiler alert - we didn't.
