BBM on Ashford:
‘We’re really pleased that Cian sees his future here. He’s had a really good season, but I think the most impressive thing about him is that we’re now seeing exceptional improvement and growth, which we think will be even more evident as the season progresses.’

Someone said on the other thread that managers see things that fans don't, that's definitely the case with Ashford.
Because of the way we play, he does work in this system due to his good control of the ball.
It's no coincidence that Sheffield United have been looking at him for a while. All the data-based analysts are big fans of him.

It's something about wingers nobody ever rates them. Tanner and Willock get loads of stick this year despite their output being fantastic. If they don't beat their man all the time they don't take people on enough, if they do, they lose the ball too much.
Ashford has been very good, works very hard and is an all around quality player, who was having a great season until Tanner came back in and started tearing up the league

Andrew,
I rate him for League 1
I watched him for 2 Seasons on the Championship, was not good enough.
But time will tell.

I can’t make my mind up on him as a player But then i have to remember he is only 21 years old and under BBM seems to be learning very quickly Until this season he has been a kid in a team that were awful and generally only getting game time when the game was already a struggle for Cardiff

I'm not sur we can judge him on last season as the team was crap & he really only got game time when we were losing. Been much better this season & he's still only 21. Surely it's better to have him under contract longer than letting him go for free after running his contract down, in BBM we trust.
Support the team, not the regime.

Happy to see him sign a new contract. Coming into a relegation battling team as a youngster is never a easy gig. Like many of the academy products he's definitely benefited from dropping down a level and working in a successful team, that plays a style of foitball that suits him.
Parts of this season he has been very good once he gets a good run of games. He's probably been unfortunate how in form tanner and willock has been since tanners returned from injury. Under Murphy i can only see him improving and he looks like hes got the work ethic to make it happen

Ashford was playing fir us the season before our relegation battle.
I went to Brum away and saw him score and looked good, but he continued to go down hill in my view and last season was not good enough.

Def has the work ethic.

The last time we weren't in a relegation battle he would have been about 14, or it seems like it was that long ago.

In all fairness he must've only played a handful of games the first season he came on the scene, also mainly from the bench. Last year i agree he didnt hit any great form but as i originally said that was basically in a sinking ship. Bringing youngsters into that scenario and expecting them to flourish is a tall order. Something our circus of a board hoped for.
I think the big question next season will be how far have the players genuienly developed when taking the step back up to the championship. It will be interesting to see how far Ashford has come on compared to our relegation season, i personally think the work Murphy has done with him and majority of the players we will see a vast improvement.

People saying this player or that player aren't good enough for the Championship, I'd gently say that we don't know that.
At the start of the season, I was worried about Wintle being a big part of our team but he's been one of the players of the season.
There were also people saying Chambers can't play CB but he's improved and can totally play there in the Championship.
Our players have improved a lot since the manager came in last summer and think they'll continue to prove the naysayers wrong in the Championship, providing BBM stays.
When I say naysayers, I include myself because I've doubted players that have improved a lot.
