About Reading

Reading are in their third successive season in League One, having been relegated from the Championship in 2023. Last season they finished 7th.

They had a turbulent time whilst under bad ownership for the last few years, but were bought by Rob Couhig earlier this year.

So far this season, they are 21st with 11 points from 11 games.

Club Connections

Although they left in the summer, both Yakou Meite and Andy Rinomhota spent the last couple of years with us after being at Reading.

The Opposition's Manager

Noel Hunt is the Reading manager, having been appointed in December last year.

He also made over 140 league appearances for the club as a player.

This is his first managerial role, although he also previously served as a caretaker manager for Reading.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Lewis Wing is known for being good at scoring from range. He has two league goals this season and two assists.

Charlie Savage is known to us, as he is a Wales international.

Referee

Referee not confirmed yet.

Head To Head - last five meetings

We have won three of the last five meetings, with Reading winning two.

The last competitive match between the two was a Championship game in February 2023, which we won 1-0 at CCS.

We should win, but Internationals put us at a disadvantage. Many of our squad are away on international duty, so we get less time together, but it is what it is and haopefully Bellamy has given them some more confidence and some new ideas.

The pressure was once again piled on Reading boss Noel Hunt after Saturday's draw with Exeter City, and Rob Couhig could look to replace him with Matt Bloomfield, in what would be the least surprising managerial appointment of the season.

With the pressure mounting on Hunt, the recent sacking of Bloomfield from Luton Town could see Couhig pull the trigger and bring the man he worked with at Wycombe Wanderers to the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Royals supporters have had to deal with plenty of pain and misery in recent years, thanks to the tumultuous tenure of former owner Dai Yongge. However, now he's been replaced by Couhig, there was a renewed sense of optimism going into the season.

Despite this, results haven't been there in the early exchanges of the new campaign, and the Berkshire-based outfit sit 21st in League One after 12 matches, with just two wins under their belt, and a squad which, on paper, is far better than results suggest.
Unfortunately, football matches aren't won on paper, as many teams who expected to fight at the very top of League One have found out this season. This has seen the finger pointed at the man in the dugout, with plenty of supporters calling for a change.

Hunt was appointed in early December last year, after Ruben Selles was poached by Hull City, and the Royals couldn't afford an external replacement, and subsequently looked internally, opting to appoint the Under-21s boss.

The Royals, whose head coach is former Republic of Ireland striker Noel Hunt, currently sit 21st in the table, but are unbeaten in their last four games, with their last three league fixtures all ending in 1-1 draws.

Brian Barry-Murphy : “I would have known Noel from an early age and he’s from close to where I’m from in Ireland so you always watch out for each other. There’s more and more Irish head coaches coming to this country, which is great for us.

"They’re a very big club in this division. I went to their game against Exeter City to watch it in person just to get a feel of the qualities they have.

"When we’re so busy and watching games on video, sometimes you can see different things, but you don’t quite get a feel of the quality of certain players and the intricacies of their play.

"I went to that game and you can see that their squad is full of players who have quality and have played at a higher level.

"They’re not where they’d want to be in the table currently, but being there gave me an insight into the talent they possess and what we’ll have to do to overcome it.”

Reading FC fans have expressed concerns over the fitness of number one goalkeeper Joel Pereira after the club recalled goalkeeper Tom Norcott from his loan at Woking.

Speaking after Reading’s draw against Exeter City last week, manager Noel Hunt confirmed that the staff would be assessing Pereira ahead of the game against Cardiff.

He said: “He picked something up in training during the week so we will assess him and hopefully he is ok. He took a sore one on Thursday so hopefully he’s fine.”

Some fans have speculated that Pereira may be out of action after the club decided to recall Norcott from his loan at Woking.

A statement by Woking said: “Reading FC has recalled goalkeeper Tom Norcott from his loan spell, as the Royals seek additional cover in their goalkeeping department.

“Tom has come in and done brilliantly when called upon. Reading are recalling him to add cover to their squad, and while he’s not playing for us, we have little argument to keep him despite how well he has done.

We thank Reading for their working with us and being as helpful as they have been.

We wish Tom all the best and hope to see his career go from strength to strength.”

Hope it's not another game like Burton.
