I'd be more worried about them if it was silk boxers.

Considering they are one of the oldest clubs in the world they've achieved virtually nothing in that long history.

And therein lies the truth!

It’s amazing how little old Wrexham suddenly attracted such ‘loyal’ supporters, isn’t it?! :laughing6:

No jealousy from me! I loves my Bluebirds, I does; and I’m happy I don’t have to say ‘Laah’ after every sentence! :ayatollah:

We only started attracting more supporters when we started going through the leagues as well mind. And as we dropped it dwindles. Just like most clubs it’s to expected nothing new here really.

Relative to your age, maybe. We've averaged >20,000 since 2010; but going back, we've had 5 other decades (not including the past 15 years) of 20,000 or more. Peaking at 28,000-35,000. 80s and 90s tends to be the reference of crowds, but that was a big dip and average low point in our entire history.

Other than 2016 & 2017 (and covid times), we've been quite stable over 15 years. With 2 spikes in premier league.

In short - when crap and not performing: 18,000-21,000
In promotion pushes/play off surges: 20,000-23,000 (which isn't much of a difference)
Premier league:27,000 & 31,000 (Welcome to the Liverpool, United and Arsenal lot for 1 season)

Regarding your point on the 80 and 90 agree they were the lowest in our history, though attendances everywhere were down, but as any of us who there know the announced crowd was far lower than the numbers in the ground. We used to laugh when the crowd was announced. It was the exact opposite of the situation these days

I know the reasons (for our club), I was just presenting the data.

Point being, Cardiff City have (generally) been well supported over their history, other than the 80s and 90s; which tends to be the era that all compare to.
Likely because a) it's our lowest and b) I assume that the majority range of ages of posters on here started in the 80s and 90s.

And I agree with you. As I was saying though, for those of us who went in the 80's and 90's the crowds were notoriously understated to say the least. In the really bad days I would stand on the bob bank and see the grandstand at least half full- that's 1,600 people - and the Canton about about half full, that's another 1,000. The crowd would be announced as something like 3,500 meaning there were only 900 people on the bob bank, enclosure and grange end (if open). Clearly ridiculous. Probably more like 5-6,000. It was suggested that season ticket holders - of whom there weren't that many-, weren't counted.

Cardiff City have actually attracted varying large attendance numbers over the years ( excluding the diabolical 80’s and 90’s which coincidentally affected nearly every club )

Between 1921 and 1926 we averaged 31,000 ( bigger than many big premier league clubs )
Between 1927 and 1939 we averaged around 20,000 with attendances as high as 40,187
Between 1946 and 1952 we averaged around 33,000 ( with a seasons average of nearly 38,000 twice ) and a highest gate of 60,855
In the 50’s and 60’s and 70’s we attracted crowds in excess of 58,000

36,000 in the old Third Division against Hereford on a Wednesday in 1976 is the crowd I always remember and which showed the potential of the club. We beat Palace away on the Saturday before. I think the crowd was about 25,000 and Malcom Alison the champagne swilling, cigar smoking celebrity Palace manager was quoted as saying that Cardiff wouldn't get that the following week. The board sent him a crate of champagne as thanks for boosting the crowd.   Wrexham were in the same league as us at the time, getting crowds I guess of around 5,000 or 6,000

I don't recall much bother between the two tbh honest in the past including Welsh Cup games when I was a young un, they are a bit arrogant at Wales away but then that's up to them, as for the kung fu, mma and all that bollox, grow the feck up jumping around in groups giving it the large one. I recall about three years a Carrot Cruncher giving it the big un in the home end and them later outside and then bumping into same carrot cruncher in Tesco and he froze and was like Oh shit and we just said alright mate...he was speechless. :bluebird:

It will be nice to go to a well run club though :bluebird:

I was around in the 70s/80s when we played Wrexham regularly. I don't recall them ever bringing a firm down, in fact I'm convinced they never did.

The nearest they've ever come to a firm is Wrexham Van Hire.

I'm sure they're still upset at that 3-2 win we had in the FA cup in the 70s when they were busy celebrating a last minute equalizer & we went straight up the other end from the kick off & won it 3-2.

Never, ever, brought any fans to Cardiff - 1978 cup game excepted when they probably had around 1,500- let alone a firm :laughing6: In fact the only time I can remember them turning up in any numbers even at home was when we played them the year we went up in the early 90's with Eddie May. But as we took 4,000 there so they soon disappeared after the game

Remember it well. Match of the Day as well. Billy Ashcroft scored and celebrated in front of the Canton where they had a few fans. Some guy hanging around the pillar at the front celebrating to the camera. Thirty seconds later Steve Grapes laid it back to Buchanan and the Grangend went wild. Cant believe it was nearly 50 years ago :old:

Snap, I was in the corner of the Grange, about to leave to walk around to the supporters shop (back of Canton), to book a place for the replay. Everyone went loopy. lol

I must have been very near to you at the time as that's where I was and having almost the same thoughts. As soon as Wrexham equalised I had made my way from the back towards the exit of the stand at the side of the Grangend and was contemplating on having to go up to Wrexham in the middle of the week when I saw Steve Grapes get the ball and get to the bye line . Worrying how I can remember all that from back then but not a lot about the the last few seasons.

Your right if we splitting hairs.
But the point originally was they only have the following they now because they gone up the leagues. The same as us the return to 20k attendances. If Sam didn’t come and we were still in league2 we’d have low attendances. But they increased when we went up and peaked and then declined and they are where they are. It’s certainly not a unique situation in football. Higher leagues bring in bigger attendances it’s a fact.

Apparently no cares about them so what does it matter anyway?
