1,788 tickets sold for tomorrow's trip to Cardiff

BBM ON INJURIES:

‘Perry Ng is two to three weeks away and Alex Robertson is on a similar timescale with his return. The first game takes a lot out of different players for different reasons. I think there were a few who were stiff and sore, but we have a clean bill of health.’

TV and streaming

Once again this season, every match in the Carabao Cup and Vertu Trophy will be shown live on Sky Sports.

About Swindon Town

Swindon Town are currently in their fourth consecutive season in League Two, having been relegated from League One in 2021.

Last season they finished 12th.

They have played in the top tier, the last time being in the 1993/94 season.

Nicknamed the Robins, they have played their home games at The County Ground since 1896.

Club Connections

Paul Bodin made 75 league appearances for City and later went on to play for Swindon.

The Opposition's Manager

Ian Holloway was appointed Swindon manager in October last year.

Holloway, who famously the managed the Blackpool team that beat us in the Championship play-off final, is managing his ninth club.

He has three promotions on his CV, including that promotion to the Premier League for Blackpool in 2010.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Harry Smith scored 15 goals last season and got his first of this season on Saturday.

Joseph Snowdon, a signing from Leeds, is highly rated.

Referee

Elliot Bell will take charge of this game.

Last season, he refereed 39 games across the EFL and the National League - with most of his games in League One and League Two.

In those games, he showed 162 yellow cards and 9 red cards - average of 4.1 yellow cards per game.

Head To Head - last five meetings

We have won four out of our last five against Swindon, although the most recent of those meetings was a friendly.

Before that, we hadn't played them since 2003 - a 1-1 draw at Ninian Park in the league.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Both teams are expected to make changes to their starting line ups from their last league fixture.

Difficult to predict how each team will line up.

Last Game

On Thursday, we drew 0-0 at Port Vale to take us to four points after two games in League One.

Swindon Town beat Cambridge 3-2 on Saturday, leaving them on three points after two games in League Two.

Match Odds

Cardiff City - 5/6
Swindon Town - 3/1
Draw - 2/1

Went for Swindon on the grounds of it being a cup match & us probably playing a weaker team, or I hope so.

Fair play, that's brilliant support for a Tuesday night cup game.

Swindon Town appointed manager Ian Holloway on October 25th, 2024 after a four-year hiatus from management. Holloway had a playing career that spanned from 1980 until 1999, playing for a range of English clubs. The midfielder started his career at Bristol Rovers, making 111 appearances and netting 15 goals. After spells at Wimbledon, Brentford and Torquay United, Holloway would return to Bristol Rovers (not for the last time) where he made an additional 179 appearances. Holloway then moved to Queens Park Rangers in 1991, enjoying five years at the club and making 147 appearances.

He would return to his boyhood club Bristol Rovers in 1996, with a new career path in mind as player-manager. In his second season at the club, Holloway took Rovers to the Division Two (now League One) Play-Offs. By February 2001, he was reunited with another of his former clubs, Queens Park Rangers. In his five years at Loftus Road, Holloway managed them to promotion to the second division. Holloway would then take charge of Plymouth Argyle and Leicester City. On May 21st 2009, he was appointed manager of Blackpool, who were in the Championship at the time, but nine months later reached the Premier League, with Holloway becoming just the second Blackpool manager to win promotion in his first full season.

Following his success with Blackpool, Holloway would then coach Crystal Palace. It would be a case of déjà vu, as Holloway again promoted the Championship side to the Premier League in his first season at the club. In January 2014, Holloway was appointed Millwall manager and completed the task of keeping them in the Championship. In November 2016, Holloway returned to Queens Park Rangers and steered the club from relegation.

He joined Grimsby Town in December 2019 but resigned a year later, remaining away from the dugout for four years. Since his arrival at Swindon Town in October 2024, Holloway has had a successful tenure at the club. The League Two side’s form dramatically improved in early 2025, picking up 13 points from a potential 18. After a League Two Manager of the Month award in January, Holloway was rewarded with a new long-term deal in March, keeping him at the club until June 2028.

It will be interesting what team BBM will select for this game. It's a Big game for City,,, a statement of intent is required.

The rest of the Div 1 clubs will be watching!

Anyone else see Holloway booting off on a fan that threw something at the opposition keeper?

7k I think the club haven’t helped over the years where we haven’t taken the cups seriously. We never play 1st teams so is instantly lack of interest from floating fans. Until the club take the cup competitions seriously I think we’ll always struggle with attendance. Plus being on sky will knock lots off.

Personally I think club should include cup game of 1st round in with season tickets as a bonus just to boost attendance

Going to need you guys to keep me updated on this game as it's not available to me. The Wrexham game & a couple of others are though so I guess the rights are bought but CCFC just isn't interesting enough.

Has the boycott of attending games begun? I can only see and hear Swindon fans! Can't be many Bluebirds there. A few TAN OUT banners would have looked nice under the red seats with an empty ground. :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Not the most exciting start. Winter has had a shot from range and Davies is making some progress against their left back. A lot of sideways passing, particularly in defence so far. Only 15 mins in. Swindon look up for it.

Missed the first 5 minutes because I couldn't find it on Sky.

Found it now and it's all City.

Very low home crowd.

1-0.
I think that’s the best delivery from a corner I’ve seen in the last year!

Well done Isaak Davies on the delivery!

The Ninian stand is always closed for these games so the fans are in the Canton stand and the grandstand obviously

How do you suggest people get up to the red seats when it’s all closed up?

If there were any banners under the red seats then nobody would see them anyway.

Jeez there’s some humdingers on here!

Yet again

Tue Aug 12, 2025 7:14 pm

On 25 minutes great chance to swing the ball into the box and we don’t do it and end up going back to our keeper. The curse and stupidity of modern football. A minute after instead of being in their box they miss a sitter. The fans just want to see goal moth action NOT going backwards. Grrrrr

Should have been a goal for Swindon. Great chance after Robinson catelessly lost possession on halfway and was easily brushed aside. Nothing new there then!
