Cardiff hammer League 2 Club Cambridge in friendly

Cardiff have now played a Malaysian team, 2 League 2 clubs and 1 Non League Club and are undefeated in all 4 games.

Cardiff City beat Cambridge United in convincing fashion in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly encounter this afternoon.

Brian Barry-Murphy's side welcomed the League Two side to their Vale of Glamorgan training base for two lots of 60-minute matches as they look to ramp their fitness up a fortnight out from the commencement of the League One campaign.

City used 23 players across the two matches, the first of which saw them hammer the U's 3-1. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community

Callum Robinson, who missed both games out in Spain owing to injury, and Isaak Davies, who also had a fitness niggle out in Murcia, were both on the scoresheet for City.

So, too, was Chris Willock, who dropped down to play for the under-21s against Yeovil Town earlier in the week.

Cardiff then beat Cambridge 2-0 in the second outing, with Yousef Salech continuing his fine form in front of goal. Cian Ashford, who Cardiff will hope can build on his excellent campaign last year, notched the second.

City next play against QPR in another behind-closed-doors encounter next Wednesday.

The QPR game is showing as a live stream on Wednesday as is the Notts County game on Saturday.

Good to see just about all of our forwards scoring today.

Did any of the U21 play? They are playing Ammanford tomorrow in the Welsh Cup, so they would need a full team if they wish to progress further.

Crazy really.

If we'd lost these games, this place would be full of propaganda that we are in trouble.

The negatives must be furious we've won two and drawn one

I repeat that friendly results don't mean anything but you just know some were waiting to jump on it if we'd lost them all.

No you are not.

To say people are hoping we lose and must be furious becasue we won a couple friendly games against lower division teams is not speaking facts but being pathetic. Grow up FFS.

I’m more interested in how we are going to be set up, and the type of football we are going to be playing.

It’s hard to tell right now with so many games being behind closed doors, but the higher press that we’ve seen so far is encouraging.

TBH thats the only way I can see us returning to the Championship. Its if we are consistant doing it is the challenge.

It is encouraging but you should know by now that backing a manager on here is illegal

It’s a good encouraging start but I’m not getting carried away at this point.

We’re unbeaten during pre season, Salech is scoring, Rubin by all accounts has looked a different player, encouraging performances from Lawlor, Kpakio and Nyakuhwa and Robinson looks as if he’s interested and staying.

However pre season games against Southend in Spain are going to be very different to hostile away games in cold January against teams like Bradford. That’s when we’ll see the real characters and who will “cut the mustard”

I will make my judgement after 10 games or so but so far so good

Stop being a plant pot Ned not everything is negative for seeing and speaking what we all see. Nobody wants us to lose let's be honest just because we are not making signings, got a coach as a manager so untested at this level and people want the regime out it makes no difference to all of us wanting us to win surely. Although as you mentioned there only pre season games because enough on here are quick to say over and over "it's about fitness" if we lose such games.

He’s a very negative weird person.

I’m sure he’s drunk with most of his replies.

We are the ones who want better for our club, he’s happy for us to be run bad, which he proved with wanting Riza all of last season, before it was too late.

Constantly shooting people down for wanting us to improve as a club is very strange behaviour.

Come on the boys. We’ve definitely got the players to score plenty of goals in this league.

If we improve Gk, LB, RB, CB, we have a great chance of promotion.

He isn’t happy for us to be ran badly. Same as I am not.

This is part of the problem.

Everyone goes on and on about opinions but then snide remarks are made from both sides. I’m not innocent at all in all of the remarks, it’s what happens when you support your club.

What Ned is trying to say (I believe, so correct me if I’m wrong) is that there are problems that Tan has caused, yes, however people are so blinded by Tan that they fail to realise that they are allowed to support the manager and the team at the same time.

The consistent speaking down of a manager who has only just joined the club epitomises what city fans have become - unwilling to give a chance to any new manager or players that come in, because of Tan.

If we had brought in Buckingham, people would have complained.

If we had brought in Jones, people would soon have turned due to the style of football.

Remember, people were calling Salech an unknown player who would turn out to be another Kanga. Guess what, he didn’t.

We are all in agreement that Tan should sell up and go back to doing what he did before owning us, focusing on his business in Malaysia.

Re: Cardiff remain unbeaten this pre season

Everyone is clearly supporting the club, if we weren’t then the season ticket sales would be far lower.

People are allowed to go on a message board and vent. The majority of the venting is about us wanted better for our club.

He attacks anyone who questions the club. We have made no signings and if anyone brings it up he kicks off. He’s like a spoilt child in my eyes, who is so closed minded he only thinks his opinion is right and soon as someone proves him wrong he starts calling names.

Message boards are for opinions, if you don’t agree with it, state yours and move on. He gets obsessed and brings other arguments into new posts, which instantly makes that new post negative and drags on old arguments.

Apart from the obvious that we need a few signings it’s the right character players signed to lift the dressing room which is full of players not used to winning .Tough mental attitude players to lift the standard and lead the talented players we have is a must ,if we get those type I’m quietly confident we can go back up :old: :bluebird:

Re: Cardiff remain unbeaten this pre season

I honestly think if we signed a player of Robinson credentials as well as a rubin type a Chambers a Ashford and obviously a player who puts it about like Salech. Then 99% of us would be confident about competing.... I just wish we had these type of players here :banghead:

Worcester, you clearly back the manager, and that’s fair enough — but you seem to take it as a personal offence when other fans don’t share the same view.

Plenty of us want to support the manager, but that doesn’t mean we can’t question his decisions or point out when things aren’t working. Blind loyalty doesn’t help the club move forward — honest discussion does. Criticism isn’t always negativity; sometimes it’s just realism.

Also, the way you often dismiss other fans' opinions as if yours is the only correct one doesn’t really help the conversation. Forums are meant to be a place for debate, not lectures. Most people on here care deeply about the club and want success just as much as you do — they just might see a different route to get there.

Maybe instead of telling people they’re wrong, it’s worth trying to understand why they feel the way they do.
By the way, I’m not having a go — you’re clearly a knowledgeable poster and bring a lot to the forum.

However, when it comes to BBM, some of us just want to see a bit more before we fully get behind him. His record at Rochdale wasn’t great, and it's not unreasonable to be cautious. We’re not saying you’re wrong — just that we’d like to see the proof on the pitch before we commit 100%. If he does well, we’ll all be right behind him.

Good post that tbh.
My opinion on BBM now compared to Rochdale time is that.
1. We have an arguably better squad than what he had to work with there.
2.We are a bigger better club with more clout
3. We are 1 of the bookies favourites to go up. Where Rochdale were 1 of the favourites to be down bottom.
4. So in summary he has a better chance of a better record etc than what he worked with before.
5. He was praised for doing well with what he had at Rochdale even though recorded% wasn't great.
6. So I guess this is why myself etc have confidence in him getting something out of these players
