Strangely enough, I had exactly the same thought this morning. :bluescarf:

I had the same thoughts, i think the name Johann Rupert has obvious links to Gareth Bale through the golf world, that accompanied by the rumour going around of a very rich golfer is one of the group backing Bale adds to the story :old: the plot thickens! :ayatollah:

Google AI brings this up

"AI Overview
Gareth Bale impressed during the third round of last year's AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm, including with a superb putt at the 13th hole

Yes, Rory McIlroy, a very rich and well-known professional golfer, is part of the group backing Gareth Bale's bid to buy Cardiff City. Bale, who has retired from professional football but remains heavily involved in golf, is leading a consortium to potentially acquire the club. McIlroy, known for his own successful golfing career and substantial wealth, has publicly shown support for Bale's efforts.

Here's why this is notable:

Bale's Golf Connection:

Bale is a well-known golf enthusiast and has become increasingly involved in the sport since retiring from football, even becoming an ambassador for The R&A.

McIlroy's Support:

McIlroy has spoken positively about Bale's golfing potential and has been seen participating in events alongside him, solidifying their connection.

Potential for Investment:

Bale's consortium, which includes McIlroy, is reportedly making a "brand new offer" for Cardiff City. This suggests a serious financial commitment and a strong backing for Bale's vision for the club.

Bale's Retirement and Post-Football Plans:
Bale's retirement from football in January 2023 and his subsequent focus on golf and business ventures, including the Cardiff City bid, make this a significant development".

Could be a load of old shit, but then again.............................................

Don’t think there’s any connection with Bale and the South African but…. There’s mention of Mcilroy being included with Bale. Obviously that would mean good connections within the golfing world. Johann is a massive gold fan. Now Rory Mcilroy has a very good personal relationship with Johann Rupert, he was the man that brought Rory Mcilroy on the golf scene giving his path to tour success and he gets invited to participate in his tournament regularly. Mcilroy and Bale are also in business venture with Tiger Woods. It could all link together but that would be too good to be true

Oh I do like a good (if far fetched ) theory. One of the best, non-footbal match, periods on this message board was the night we were getting on the ground reports from a hotel on the Coryton roundabout.

No, Bale's group is different.

I'd actually prefer the South African to the Bale group.

Is that just down to the wealth of the group, or more about the people involved?

I have said before that I'm very sceptical about the American involvement in the Bale group.

I'd also rather us not become a media circus like Wrexham.

People see Bale's name and think he'd be the one making the decisions but the reality is he'd put in hardly any money, it would be the Americans. And because they'd put in the most money, they'd have the big say. Bale is just the face of it.

That “media circus” have made Wrexham a massive GLOBAL brand. They have done wonders for Wrexham as a city let alone the football club. They care for the fans, the culture and the history of the club too. I’m very envious of them myself.

I'm not envious of them, because the fact is that most genuine football fans see them as a circus.

It's all about building the egos of two actors. I'm convinced it'll come crashing down at some point and I'll be having a celebratory drink when it does.

Will repeat my view that I would prefer the South African.

Just because they’re 2 famous actors doesn’t mean everything they do is for their own image. Their marketing of the club is spot on. They’ve been achieving everything they’ve promised. Not many owners can say that. I don’t know how anyone could knock them to be honest. If it does start crashing down there will be no shortage of people wanting to buy them for a very hefty price.

I think Wrexham have been extremely lucky so far in what they owners have done for. How far they can go who knows but they need more than the the actors alone. How ever they massive and I mean massive media success can pull in a lot of money. They certainly have a load of potential there. But so have so many other clubs, us included and look what can happen.
I think this year will be a big test for them but if they can achieve mid table in their first season I reckon they will have a rosy future.

I couldn't give two shits about Wrexham they are irrelevant to me I'm neither happy or sad of how well they've done

What I will say is that the minute they took over the club they did exactly what our clown of an owner failed to do and has failed to do ever since, they employed football people who knew how to successfully run a football club and look where it's gotten them

I cannot see it being just an ego trip for the two actors, but if it is then they deserve the self praise.

Forgetting what they have done for the football. They have brought billionaires on board that are completely changing the town itself.

I don't doubt that there will be benefits for the Allyn family but they did not need to be this philanthropic when buying the club.

Bromborough u12's have new kit this season with "Maximum Effect" as their sponsors (Ryan Reynolds). They are going above and beyond to leave a legacy.

I'm not suggesting this about those on this thread but, most of the vitriol from clubs fans that have come up against Wrexham, is mostly down to envy.
