So, for my sins, I also support the Washington Commanders in NFL - (Have done since Joe Theisman and Art Monk) - and Depth Charts are very popular in the NFL.
So I thought I would put one together for us - (As I see it).

We have lost a lot of players but, on the face of it, I still think we have a side capable of promotion.
So from this - who would you sell and in what position would you strengthen?

I can see Robinson going and possibly Willock and Chambers and hopefully Horvatz and maybe Turnbull .
I think we need an experienced CB and CM, a quicker Winger and RB and LB and if we can get rid of Etete a young striker

Ceri
If that is the case this is what it will look like - I think it looks a bit thin on the ground

Possible play I.Davies up front instead of Etete
And definitely think that we need to buy the positions that you suggest.

I had a similar one before, of course needs updating. But based on the depth I definitely want a 6 (CDM), not sure I want Chambers full time there when we lack some defensive depth.
BBM is a tactician, so he will likely use Ashford and Davies as wide forward when playing narrower, players like Tanner and Willock when we wanna stretch teams, but I feel we need pace and trickery doing this,
Left back I feel we are now lacking depth.
We might be fine with 8’s, as long as Turnbull and Robertson stay, then you have both Colwills in the mix with them.
Probably one more striker. After Salech, Robinson is injured and I don’t have confidence in Etete.
I think overall: no.6, LB, wing, backup striker. If Chambers is gone then a RB/CB cover to add.

The best we were last year was with Robertson and Turnbull in deeper midfield roles, injury scuppered that for a chunk of the season and Risa never went back to it.

Thanks Paul,
I’ve enjoyed as usual what you put together.
I believe we will def need a Leader / tough man.
Plus a couple of players who have played in this league and done well.

I guess someone has to support Washington
That's a useful tool Paul & thanks for putting it up, my only gripe would be the players you have in lots of different positions makes it look like we have more players than we do & a little confusing for me (

). So one player in only one place would be better for me personally. But like I said, great chart.

haha Andrew.
Yes I started supporting them in the 9 game strike season of 1982. Back in the day Joe Theisman and Art Monk were the leading players. Then over the years they didnt just lose touch they were easily outclassed in NFC East by the Giants, Dallas and Philadelphia - and back then we had the Cardinals to contend with as well.
The purchase of the Commanders, by Josh Harris, has been immense. He presently invests in Crystal Palace but he is the sort of owner I would like here - if the Bale consortium is unsuccessful. He has turned things around since the day he walked through the door.
As for the depth chart I know what you mean. Bagan is a good example. 1st choice at LB but can play CB if required.

Think we will see will spiers make a few appearances at right back in some of the cup games,
I was impressed with him in the youth games last season and think it's only a matter of time until he makes a breakthrough
Sat Jul 05, 2025 6:41 pm
I agree. I've been impressed with him as well. But kpakio is quality.
I also think Dylan Lawlor will be prominent this year. My only concern is whether there are too many youngsters and whether some experience also needs to be added

I was impressed with Giles away at Villa and would be happy with him as back up to Bagan.
A new 1st choice goalkeeper is needed.
If NG is out until January then a new RB also.
An experienced centre back to play alongside Fish.
The rest will depend on any more outgoings for me.

Yes I agree and with NG out for a while unless we go out and get a proven right back I'm more than comfortable with kapakio at right back to start the season

Paul it s a very interesting and thought provoking thread. My view is there are three dynamics that will define what happens.
1 A takeover
2 Who else leaves
3 The size of any budget.
There may be more, but I think these are the main 3

Cheers Ceri.
I do think that the chart shows that, at the present time, we do have some strength in depth and that strength should be enough for Division 1 football. But it was interesting to re-do the depth chart and see how we look if Robinson, Willock, Chambers, Horvath and Turnbull were to leave.
I agree that the takeover will be the defining part of our season. There will be those players who want to stay and enjoy the ride and there will be those who choose to leave. I hope we can retain at least three of the four outfield players mentioned above.
Our budget. Well salary wise we are able to spend 60% of our turnover on salary and presently I am estimating that to be around the 45% mark so I would hope that we have some "wiggle room".

I hope do too
