Now that Ralls has gone and O'Dowda is being linked with a move too, who will our captain be?
Let's assume O'Dowda is leaving.
Could it be a new player?
Someone on social media said it might be Robertson. That wouldn't surprise me.

Recruit one

I think the captain will be someone who has yet to sign for us & BBM already has someone in mind.

Chambers or NG, if they go? I guess Fish or buy a captain, not a fan of keepers for captains

No one currently in the squad suitable.
We need to target our priority signing for a suitable captain.

I agree, and I believe that this was one of the reasons for our downfall. Nobody to lead on the pitch.
Compare to Warnocks side (like him or not) the potential leaders on the pitch - Morrison, Bamba, Peltier, Gunnsrsson and in Morrisons interview on the Crntral Club he said that NML was a great influence in the dressing room (just repeating what he said), that’s FIVE first teamers who could be considered leaders on the pitch.

My thinking was you need a mix all kids no leaders no experience but then again I am just a supporter how many old heads are in the Sunderland squad.?.

Rubin Colwill
I feel it could be his big chance to prove fans wrong and really lead this team of youngsters into League 1.

We definitely hope a few experienced players.
I know BBM doesn't just use youth.

Robertson or Colwill as captains

They both go missing during games more than a Lord Lucan and Shergar.

I'd give it to Robertson and build the side around him. He'll be our best player in the new season.
Riza didn't have a clue and played him as a 10 way too high up the pitch. With BBM knowing Alex from Man City, he'll play him in his right position and we'll see the best out of him.

Please tell me you are joking with this comment?
Colwill goes missing far too often to be even mentioned in this discussion.

Of the current squad (if we are assuming Odowda leaves), the only players who showed any fight in the relegation battle was Salech so I'd say him currently.
However, it shouldn't be him as we should be recruiting leaders this summer.

I think we will have to, it's a real weakness.

Colwill would be the last person i would pick . For one he does not show any signs of being able to lead by example . He is not guaranteed a starting place by any means and never show much of a fight when things are not going our way.

It may be someone like Wintle, but I don’t know if he is up to it (upset at the crowd incident).
If Ng stays, would make sense.
Likely a signing at the moment, probably a commanding 6.
Mon Jun 23, 2025 10:04 am
Has to be O'Dowda if he stays.
He's the only leader we have left.
Mon Jun 23, 2025 2:19 pm
Will be Jak Alnwick if odowda leaves I think. Would like to see someone like a Barry bannan type player signed and give that person the armband
Mon Jun 23, 2025 3:23 pm
Depends who stays and who arrives but based on current personnel my first choice would be cod. With ralls off I think maybe wintle if cod leaves but will
Need to see who leaves as to if he’s a guaranteed starter
Mon Jun 23, 2025 7:03 pm
Wouldn’t be surprised if it was Callum if he stays or a regular starter like Fish.

O dowda if he stays...not much choice thereafter. Robertson possibly but feel a key signing is a leader and captain
Tue Jun 24, 2025 7:21 pm
I like O’Dowda but he’s never struck me as a captain, even when he was last season. Out of current players for me it would be Wintle, but no guarantee he’ll stay or start. Such a shame we sold McGuinness as he would’ve been an excellent candidate. As others have said I think the new captain will be recruited, same way Hudson was.
Also agree with other comments that it shouldn’t be a keeper.

I wasn't proposing Robertson as captain. To be clear, I said it wouldn't surprise me if he was the chosen one.
That's based on the fact we'll have a young team. He also knows BBM and what he expects.
