Brian-Barry Murphy : “ Cardiff has the Best “

Wed Jun 18, 2025 4:35 pm

Cardiff's new manager waxed lyrical about his assistant Lee Riley ex Rochdale ,saying in his first press conference:

"I believe that we have some of the best young talent anywhere in the country.”

“To bring that to maximum potential, you have to have some of the best coaches. I had to have an open mind at Manchester City that I would work with some of the best coaches and staff in the world.”

"Lee will be embarrassed when I say this, but I’ve never met a coach that was more adept at developing talent or having a tactical awareness of what was needed in league games. Essentially that will allow us to be a winning team.”

"When there is such a focus on developing young talent, it’s important not to distract away from the fact that we want to get promoted and win the league. There’s no getting away from that.

Ex Rochdale Assistant Lee Riley will be Murphy’s only new backroom coach he himself is bringing in.

I was hoping there would be a new medical team bought in as I really felt our players were getting injured to frequently and not coming back fully healed last season

Maybe the new training will deal with the injuries ?

Some teams get loads like us, some teams get very few. Didn't Slot's training and resting players strategy result in many fewer injuries than Klopp's?

Our recruitment has been very poor. We are slow, late, confused as to what we want and the constant changing of managers and styles doesn't help.

When you arrive at the greengrocer at 8:00 am, you get to pick the best fruit. However, when you rush in after work, the only choice you have is two scabby pears that nobody else wanted. That's been our recruitment.

Old, injury-prone, or worse, a serious injury or layoff that nobody else wanted to touch, and, surprise, surprise, the physio's room is full of senior pros getting a massive wage for playing or not.

Hopefully that changes soon.

Agree, hopefully BBM can assess this squad shortly and see where the gaps are. Or at least already have an idea based on what he’s seen on tape from last season.

BBM clearly has a high opinion of Riley.

Trust from the club too - BBM and Riley call the shots from now on.
