BRIAN-BARRY MURPHY SAYS HES BEEN TOLD:

Wed Jun 18, 2025 4:21 pm

Vincent Tan told Brian Barry-Murphy in no uncertain terms that the aim this season is to get Cardiff City promoted from League One at the first time of asking.

Speaking to the press for the first time since his appointment on Monday, the Irishman spoke clearly and confidently for more than 30 minutes on a whole array of subject matters, including his footballing philosophies, his policy on youth and transfers. However, there is no getting away from the immediate goal in the mind of the head coach and, of course, the owner.

When asked if he had been told that promotion was the aim this season, Barry-Murphy replied: “Absolutely!

MURPHY:

"Vincent was very clear about where he sees the club going and how quickly he wants to see that. My conversation with him was really positive and I told him I have a real deep belief in how to do that.

BBM speaks very well. Was very relaxed in the press conference and have lengthy answers.

Goes without saying that promotion and results are the name of the game, but a good start.

Said on another thread that because his wife works in the media industry as a radio presenter, he'll know how to be media savvy.

Whereas Riza was dreadful with the media and gave awful answers a lot of the time.

MURPHY:

"The conversation with Vincent was really positive. He told me exactly what he likes to see in football, I said, luckily for him, I know how to supply that!

"But it will be based on how well we train and how the players perform. All responsibility is on me to liberate the players and set them free.

"The whole idea is for the players to see this as an opportunity. Outside of the training pitch we are going to be favourites for the league and we will try and win the league. But the players will get real substance from what we’ll do on the training pitch."

The 46-year-old, who was last assistant coach at Leicester City in the Premier League following his stint as head coach at Manchester City's academy, is the 16th manager or head coach of Tan's reign.

The revolving door of managers in CF11 has led to a destabilising nature within the club and the head coach job might well have been deemed a poison chalice for some.

I just watched the entire interview.

A thoroughly enjoyable watch.
He came across as articulate with a clear plan and was honest in the fact that the board were supportive and had the same passion that he had.

Loved it when he mentioned we’re the biggest club in wales a couple of times and wouldn’t mention the JB’s by name :laughing6:

And had the unfortunate appearance of a tramp who'd spent most of his time being dragged through a hedge backwards.

Best bit was when he said fellow Irishman Sheehan would "do well, but not as good as us obviously"

Yeah, 900 shots a game and a goal scoring keeper!

Apparently our new head coach knows exactly how to supply this so next season could be even more interesting than we imagined!

I did notice a grin on BBM's face when he was talking about Tan, probably wanted to say "yeah he's insane"

Tan needs the club back in the Championship - not worth much in Div1 .
Looks like their is No sale of the club in the " coming weeks / months " ;)

Tan also wanted promotion last season. If we don't invest we won't be anywhere near the top two in my opinion if we sell two or three key players currently here. Although I do expect to see some youger ones coming in on loan from clubs the new manager has links with as that's what we do. We will see who sold and who stays or brought in which will tell me if tan is serious about going straight back up or talking shit again to try please the fans.
