“ Two Main Cardiff City players wanted “

Mon Jun 16, 2025 12:20 pm

Cardiff City duo Callum Robinson and Callum O'Dowda are reportedly the subject of interest from their former clubs in the Championship.

Both 30 years old and still under contract and would both be big assets in taking Cardiff back up.

Mehmet Dalman: “We have to now cut our wages and the size of our squad .”

Expected these players to leave when we got relegated.

The fact they signed new contracts towards the end of the season suggest they have reduced relegation release clauses in their contracts.

Robinson wouldn't shock me at all. He's a goal scorer but misses so many games! I would be gutted it O'Dowda went as hes generally one of our most consistent players whos often out of position

Robinson doesn't just miss games his work rate is shocking, he rarely tracks back to help out and for me he is not a team player. O'Dowda is a different story, be sad to see him go.

Mehmet Dalman: “We have to now cut our wages and the size of our squad .”

I knew this was coming and this is why I posted my SMCP thing yesterday.

As I proved mathematically - We do not have to cut our wages

If our support this season is around 15,000 - we have enough room for another £5m worth of salary a year. We do not need to offload players

So to say they are offloading, to me, suggests that they are not serious about a promotion push.

Paul,

If a player doesn't want to stay then it is counter productive to try and keep them.

If they have release clauses in their contracts then we have to accept an offer that meets that figure.

I think everybody expected Robinson to leave and O'Dowda was always likely too.

Certainly not something to make a big deal out of.

I don't like Tan either but to say this means they're not taking promotion seriously is simply untrue.

The English football pyramid is a perfect example of a market-driven enterprise. Let's make no mistake, it's brutal, but the cream rises and the chaff is discarded.

If the 3 Callums believe they can still get championship wages then there is little we can do. I'd be very surprised if that is not written into O'Dowda and Robinsons renewals, their agents would need public flogging if its not. Unless Chambers has no relegation clause, then he can stay on championship wages, but then the recruitment team needs a public flogging (they do for kanga alone).
If we are to keep players happy with championship wages, it needs to be Salech, Robertson & Rubin (sorry Worcester). I wouldn't be surprised to see Yousef sign an improved deal.

The others haven't proved they a championship level, so L1 salaries is all they can expect.
I guess that Wintle and Rinomhotas' agents are working overtime trying to find the lay of the land for those 2. Ralls isn't getting a championship contract either.

Patrick Deboys needs an amazing summer but looking at the last 2 years, he just guesses and hopes for the best,

Ned you are right. I apologise - I can hold my hands up when I am wrong!

At the age of 55 I have recently been diagnosed with Autism - something I have apparetly had since birth - and one of the downsides of this is that sometimes I interpret things differently or explain things in a way that I didnt intend and I clearly have here

I do think if there is room to keep players then we should try - but, as you correctly point out, If players want to go what is the point of keeping them here.

- I am now left asking myself how on earth have I managed to spend 30 years in the legal profession LOL!

Normally I think you're a great poster so keep up the good work :thumbright:

Also, nothing wrong with having autism - I also have a mild version of it and it doesn't get in the way of life :bluebird:

Nothing to apologise for Paul. Just a discussion and you're not wrong. You're entitled to your opinion :ayatollah:

Paul, I always enjoy reading your posts.

They are fair and balanced and based off of stats and numbers which are hard to disagree with.

In terms of the post - I’d let them both go.

If they want to go then let them. With our new manager we can get more younger players, and players who want to be here. I'm really looking forward to the new season and a new start. Lets build something special for other teams to envy at our club. I hope most get behind the manager and have a little patience.

Robbo is gonna go, no question about it. I think CO’D will stay and fight for promotion, he’s future captain material and club legend. Played out of position for too long.

Be surprised if we keep hold of Salech, Robertson and Rubin though, I’d prefer to keep Alex and Yousef, think as long as we’ve got the cover in midfield Rubin should be sold on. He seems to have hit a wall with development and he’s not at the right club to kick onto that next level. I may be wrong and it could all be to do with the way the coaches have been and the poor mismanagement of Riza and Bulut for that matter.

I wouldn’t be bothered if both went especially Robinson.

If they have clauses and don’t feel like playing in this league then sod em.

Saying that I rate O’Dowda.

What are they wanted for? Impersonating a footballer?
