Craig Bellamy's message to Rubin Colwill

Thu Mar 13, 2025 12:32 pm

Craig Bellamy:

"He's got to be playing, week-in, week-out for his club. I feel for him. But he'll take care of himself and he’ll be fine. He’s fine. He’s just not in these numbers, for this squad.

"But he will have a big say in this qualifying campaign. Rubin is OK. He's got a big battle as well coming up over the next couple of weeks there at Cardiff.

"But I just have players in a profile for what we're looking for in this game, which I've chosen this profile for that. That was all."

I'm a big Rubin fan, but he's earning the right to not get called up, sadly.

He's not influencing games enough. I'm still unconvinced he's a number 10, but not sure what it is. I don't think he or Riza know this, either. His best game over the past month or so was Villa away.

Two of his most memorable appearances were Liverpool in the cup and Villa a few weeks back.

Both games he was playing deeper and winning the ball back well as almost a number 8, everywhere and causing a nuisance.

The fact we know he can do it in games against better opposition in front of more eyes makes it unforgivable that he doesn’t seem to bother in the league

He also needs to work on his decision making and speeding up his pay. It’s all well and good being able to glide past players, but when he’s taking too long to release the ball it’s pointless

'He's got to be playing, week-in, week-out for his club'

then brings in Joe allen who's not played since the debry - He just doesn't like Rubin. plain and simple

He's not the only one.

Year after year, our fans have said manager after manager for both City and Wales are blind to Rubin's quality.

Maybe the truth is that he's just not good enough or consistent enough.

He obviously has the quality it's why opposition fans from the likes of villa swansea Bristol etc rave about him when he actually puts in a performance, trouble is they are few and far between and we get to see the other 90% of his performances that flatter to deceive, if only we could get the 10% of rubins performances 90% of the time Instead of the other way around

I think he's been harshly treated with no call up. As Cardiff fans we judge him as much against our expectation of his given talent. But Bellamy's talking bollox when linking his non selection to his playing time. This calendar year it holds up very well to almost all of the squad and very much better than a number of players. Christ Joe Allen has spent no more than 80 minutes on the pitch - 55 of them at the Cardiff City stadium where, lets be honest, he was dog shit. I'm not saying he's without fault and its in hands to get back in the squad for June. I suspect he'll have save Cardiff to do it though. Come on Rubin, we all know your miles better than most of the team selected in front of you, but you've got to show it.

I seen craig bellamy saying that he sees rubin being better in a deeper role. I agree with bellamy. Colwill could make a great deep lying playmaker, sitting in a midfield two, getting the ball from deep and making the team tick, then act as a roaming playmaker when we are further up the field. He could work on this if he had a good manager to play him there like bellamy then develop the tackling , marking, and positional awarenedd to add to his great passing dribbling and creativity. Unfortunately Riza hasent got a clue what to do with rubin

HE IS IN THE WRONG POSITION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is a modern day 8, not a hard tackling Joe Ralls type of yesteryear but a Odengard, Fernandez. He doesn't have their motor thus why he struggles to play for Wales and Cardiff.

He needs lots of grass in front of him. His primary weapon is the weight of the pass, which is Whitts, Tomlin, and Wilson level, but he doesn't have their composure in front of goal. He has to be repurposed as a CM, not an attacking CM, and definitely not a winger.

He is inconsistent because we expect him to do things he doesn't excel at. He is not Messi, but he isn't half as poor as some of you believe.

The first question the next manager should be asked is "what is his best position and how do you intend to use him?" if he says 10 then shake his hand, thank him and show him the door. If he says wide Tan will probably employ him

But he can be a game changer and for that reason alone he is worth including in the squad. Take out the Wales starting line up and we are hardly blessed for someone off the bench.

Personally I think the only way Rubin is going to become a regular for his Country is as a genuine box to box central midfielder

To do this he is going to have to get himself fitter, stronger and improve the defensive side of his game

He’s got the ability but has he got the attitude and commitment to do this…only time will tell
