Russell Martin: This Cardiff City team is much better

Southampton boss Russell Martin told Erol Bulut he had made this Cardiff team so much better than they had been in the previous two years.


The Bluebirds have had five different managers in their last five South Wales derbies, with Martin winning all four of his while in charge of Swansea, before he moved to the south coast this summer.

And he made a point of telling Bulut that he thought he had improved the Bluebirds' team markedly from the ones he faced while in SA1. "I spoke to their manager and said he’s made that team so much better than they have been in the past two years," Martin said after his side's 2-0 win on Saturday.

The reality is we went cheap with everything and nearly paid the penalty of going down.

We are still not out of the stormy waters but we are getting there.
