If any of you can stomach gruesome horror films then Damien Leone's terrifier films will leave you speechless
Watched them too see what the fuss was about after I saw posts on Twitter of people being sick in the cinema and passing out and I have to say they were hard to watch

American History X - ed Norton
The ‘dinner table scene’ is probably the most powerful I’ve ever 3 mins of jaw dropping acting. Well worth a look on YouTube if you don’t watch the whole film.

The Pianist....Just awesome
No Idea as I don't like baseball and I know the film bares little resemblance to the actual events but I love Moneyball

Elephant Man was pretty sad. Evil Dead terrifying. Midnight Run edifying.
But I think it would be A Clockwork Orange.

Some great choices here.
A significant one that hasn't been mentioned yet is 'Come And See'.
It's a 1985 anti-war film depicting the Nazi German occupation of Belarus and directed by a Russian who was censored by Soviet authorities for 8 years before they allowed him to make it. It regularly makes the top of the list of essential films and it's based on actual events. It's a tough watch as you know what you are are seeing happend and will always happen.
'Nail 'em up,' I say. 'Nail some sense into 'em.'
