PLYMOUTH Argyle will receive a sizeable cash windfall if youth product Joe Mason completes his expected £3m move from Cardiff City to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 24-year-old was a product of the Green Army's academy before going on to make 53 appearances for the club between 2009 and 2011.
The Republic of Ireland under-19 and under-21 international moved on from Home Park in July 2011 when the Welsh side paid £250,000 for his services.
As a part of that deal, a sell-on fee was agreed with Argyle, though the precise percentage has not been revealed, but just 10 per cent of the deal could mean £300,000 for the club.

makes sense - I wonder if we have put a sell on fee? Mason could be, and you may laugh, top class in future

Good kuck to Plymouth in getting that sell on clause money off Tan.
Contracts and payments mean nothing to him. Probably spend £10,000's on legal fees trying to get out of paying, go to court, still refuse to pay etc etc

Plymouth may be getting up to 25% of this deal not the 10% as being reported in the local press, according to local Plymouth radio. Great deal for PAFC if correct

This might not be true because I vaguely remember at the time we bought him that Plymouth were in shit street.
I'm sure the Riddler handled the transfer and I believe we paid the whole amount up front and got a better deal and no sell on clause

You talked about stuff that's nothing to do with sell on clause? And why not be positive rather than being Mr meldew all time? 3m is fantastic business from the £250k bought for!

When we bought him Plymouth needed cash. There was no sell on clause. I remember being on one of their websites and they were annoyed.
We paid a bit more to get the job done. I don't know if this includes development fees though.

I'm certain the Riddler brokered this deal without a sellon clause and admitted it a year later.

According to the final progress report from the administrators Mason was sold for £150,000, no mention of a sell off fee

Sell on fee not the type of thing our club would take advantage of.

Plymouth-born former Plymouth Argyle striker Joe Mason has completed his transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers from Championship rivals Cardiff City.
The 24-year-old has signed a contract with Wolves until the summer of 2019, and it means a cash windfall for the Pilgrims.
Although the fee for Mason has not been disclosed, it has been reported to be in the region of £3 million.
When Argyle sold Mason to Cardiff in 2011, at the height of their financial crisis, part of the £250,000 package included a sell-on clause thought to be around 15 per cent.
Now his move to Wolves will lead to further significant funds for his home-town club. But, as with all un-budgeted income at Argyle, 50 per cent has to go to football creditors from their time in administration.
