Cardiff interested in RASMUSSEN

Thu Jun 18, 2015 2:19 pm

Transfer News Central sources last night revealed that Danish international striker Morten Rasmussen could be linked with a summer move to the Football League Championship.

The FC Midtjylland striker played a pivotal role in his side’s successful 2014/2015 campaign in which they broke Copenhagen and Aalborg dominance to win a first Superliga title in the club’s history. It now appears that Rasmussen’s fifteen goals for the Danish side appear to have won him admirers from further afield.

Transfer News Central sources have revealed that MK Dons, Cardiff City and Brighton & Hove Albion could all be interested in signing the thirty-year-old centre-forward. It is believe that the proven goalscorer could be allowed to leave the Danish champions for a fee in the region of £1.5 million.
Rasmussen is the archetypal six-yard box striker and he has developed a reputation as prolific poacher, often scoring from close range. The thirty-year-old already has experience of playing in the UK, having had a short spell at Scottish champions Celtic. Rasmussen was brought to Celtic in 2010 from Brøndby and he went on to have loan spells in Germany with Mainz, in his native country with Aalborg and then finally in Turkey with Sivasspor.
Rasmussen or ‘Duncan’ as he is fondly referred to by Danish supporters, left Celtic in 2012 to join his current side and his return to the Superliga gave the centre-forward a chance to re-establish himself as a regular goalscorer. The thirty-year-old has scored an impressive thirty-three league goals in sixty-five matches in the last three seasons for his current outfit. His form has helped him find a way back into Martin Olsen’s plans for the Danish international set-up and he has played ten times for De Rød-Hvide (the Red and Whites). Rasmussen has been a part of his country’s international squad throughout most of his career, having represented Denmark at every age category since he made his debut with the U16s in 2001.
The Copenhagen-born centre-forward has a well-earned reputation as one of the most prolific strikers to have competed in his homeland in recent years. The marksman’s non-penalty goal average works out at 0.7 per game, making him the Superliga’s most prolific striker.
With a keen eye for goal, the Dane is a lethal finisher from feet and he is also capable of scoring headers thanks to his aerial prowess. At 6ft1 in height and with a strong build, the powerful striker is capable of playing as an extremely effective targetman and his physicality could allow him to become a successful player in the Championship. He would also bring a wealth of experience to any side that he would join, as he has played in leagues in four different countries, scoring in every country that he has played in.
Despite his apparent physical and stylistic suitability to the English game, it is believed that FC Nantes could emerge as potential suitors for Rasmussen. Les Canaris have been in the hunt for a striker ever since the departure of Filip Djordjevic to Lazio, and since their transfer embargo was lifted at the end of the season it appears that the Breton club’s priority has been to find an attacker. The lure of Ligue 1 football could be an attractive proposition for the thirty-year-old.
Although the location of Rasmussen’s next move is yet to be confirmed, one thing is ultimately clear – the centre-forward’s next move could be the biggest of his career given the stage that he is at in his footballing journey. Having won a first Danish title, the current transfer window could also be the perfect time for ‘Duncan’ to once again try his luck outside of his native country. A move abroad could also perhaps boost Rasmussen’s hopes of winning a place in the Danish international squad for the 2016 European Championships, should his nation manage to qualify from Group I.

That wouldn't be a bad signing for £1.5m to be honest.
