Be careful on Newport Rd speed camera

Thu Sep 13, 2012 10:41 am

All

Just got a fixed penalty intention to prosecute through for 38 on Newport Rd, Rover Way. Wife did it as she didn't realise they were speed cameras.

Be careful.

Keep all correspondence from the Police/Camera Safety Unit INCLUDING the envelopes in which they are sent. Can be helpful at a later date

Also remember that if you fall within the parameters, the speed awareness course is an excellent way to avoid penalty points

Good luck, hope you don't get the NIP !!!

I see people get flashed by the camera on Newport Road every day on the way to college

I got home from work this evening....and found a letter saying that i was doing 35 mph - in the same area Newport Rd.

I got flashed on that on 4 am on the way to the airport in June. I haven't had a letter yet so there may some truth in the above.

You should be eligible for speed awareness course, if you accept you were driving at the recorded speed.

It's the easiest way to avoid points without having to involve us loophole lawyers ;)

Fuckers, they put speed cameras anywhere that they think you might put your foot down a bit. like at the bottom of newport rd, just before going up the hill, everyone put on a little extra speed to get up there. no need for a camera there, then they put a mobile one at the top for good meausure... crooks

I been flashed by the static camera there but if it flashes once your ok, twice and they got you.

Defo something going on lads, in the same position as OP, wife was driving my car same place, 38mph, they reckon!! But we do that drive everyday on the way home so can't believe we were speeding!! Anyway she already has 3 points, I have none, so will admit blame and do the course, might see some of you on it then :ayatollah: :ayatollah: As long as the course is not on when City are at home eh!!

I know a fair bit about this :)

If you haven't received a letter regarding offence 2 weeks from the day of the infringement it will be classed as void ;)
If there isn't a stationary speed camera sign located 100 yards from the actual camera/s you can contest it.
Always opt for speed awareness course.

Ways to prevent getting caught
There is a special glaze you can coat your reg plates that if you get flashed it blurs your plate
And laser designaters to warn you of any close quarter cameras :).
Speed checks due to laws of physics are usually 30 mph = 33 50mph = 56mph 70mph = 78mph. Again if your charged within these limits you can contest due to the laws of physics :)

Remember however to take any of the points you mention would most likely involve a Court hearing. This means you will miss out on the speed awareness course.

To be eligible for speed awareness course you must admit being the driver on the section 172 notice.

The 14 day limit is in respect of an NIP which must be SENT within 14 days

The 'laws of physics' are actually the ACPO guidelines, which are generally the speed limit plus 10% plus 2/3mph

Always be aware that the section 172 offence, failing to give the identity of the driver, carries a minimum of 6 penalty points. This is often more than the speeding offence itself.

Lecture over!!

Yeah the special glaze :o :? it used to be hair spray   Until some lunatics who sprayed there number plate with hair spray then deliberately sped through the Camera with the occupants hanging out the Windows giving it the bird. They all ended up in court
A mate from work done one of those speed awareness courses then on the way home you guessed it he got caught speeding :o :D

I speed where I want and never had a problem with tickets. I just write back to them that Gary Medel is my uncle from Spain and they always send a letter of apology.
