Police launch hunt to find fans after Manchester United supporter assaulted at Cardiff City game

The victim was from Cardiff and suffered facial injuries

Tuesday 25th December 2018

Police are investigating an incident where a Manchester United fan was left with facial injuries after an incident inside Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday.

Shocking footage emerged at the weekend of a United fan being thrown out of the Cardiff City end of the stadium, with the video showing stewards removing the supporter, wearing a red coat, who had incurred the wrath of home fans.

Shouts of "just f*** off" and general abuse being hurled in the direction of the fan as he's being marched out can be heard.

A second video later emerged, which appeared to be filmed on the concourse at the Canton End, seemed to show a continuation of the same incident.

The supporter is escorted to a fire door by what looks to be a member of security as Cardiff fans continue abuse heard in the previous video.

Shortly before he is kicked out of the stadium, the man leading him out has to physically stand in between the United fan and a group of what appear to be Cardiff supporters.

At one point, a fan appears to throw beer at him as he leaves through the door.

Now, police have confirmed they are investigating an assault after a 21-year-old man suffered facial injuries.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "We are investigating an assault in the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday evening.

"A 21-year-old man from Ely , Cardiff, suffered facial injuries and officers are working with the club to identify those responsible.

A total of seven away fans were believed to be ejected after being discovered in home supporters' areas, with the club adding that they will review any breaches of the law with South Wales Police.

The new footage appears to show a Manchester United fan being kicked out of the Cardiff City Stadium in front of angry Bluebirds fans

The shocking video, which appears to be shot on the concourse of the Canton End, seems to be a continuation of the one that emerged on social media earlier this weekend.

The supporter, wearing a red coat, is escorted to a fire door by what looks to be a member of security as Cardiff fans continue the abuse heard in the previous video.

Shortly before he is kicked out of the stadium, the man leading him out has to physically stand in between the United fan and a group of Cardiff supporters to prevent a physical confrontation as things threaten to turn ugly.

At one point, a fan appears to throw beer at him as he leaves through the door.

The game itself saw United beat Cardiff 5-1 with former Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer winning his first game in charge of the Red Devils in front of a sold-out contest with a 33,028 crowd.

A Cardiff City spokesperson said on the incident: "We removed the supporter for his own safety and it was obviously a very difficult situation to deal with.

"The size of Manchester United's fanbase and the game mean supporters can acquire tickets from all different sources, but our stewards dealt with it in a swift and efficient manner."

Kicked off all over town today and they were expecting trouble near Grangetowm station on the way out!

Stories of Manure being turfed over the top of one of the exit walls in the corner were circulating the ground quickly

Not condoning those who mught have caused serious injury (or worse) but anyone who thinks it's 'okay' to sit in a football away end and celebrate a goal is a brick short if a hod!

Sadly, we know all too well that there are those who will 'take the risk and those who are happy sell to anyone, so long as there's money in it for them!. Shame on yiu all!

We can debate the rights and wrongs of why they live in South Wales and support Man Utd all day but they were like bottles of pop last night proper excited. I hope to god they ain't caught up on it :(

Only from a distance but I did see a Manc leave the canton over the top of one of the exits, there was a loud groan from the ninian stand as he seemed to go over head first.
Very lucky if he was not injured.

Someone in the Canton had a hell of a punch.

How simple are people to celebrate, I understand them going to the game but show some respect.

Completely agree, they shouldn't be there for a start, that's why there is home and away sections. And at least have the class to not celebrate man utd goals in the home end especially in the canton of all places. Idiots.

That video is embarrassing for us.

Shouting abuse at someone from the sides, shouting abuse and throwing sneaky punches over the top.

Jesus.

Grow up you f*cking idiot. By that logic we disrespect every town and city we have ever visited during my time following cardiff

I bet you were one of those shouting from the sides to scared to actually say anything yourself but cheering on the gimp who throws a sneaky one from the side eh.

That explains, why they didn't allow us to pass the away end when we left the Stadium. I am in the Family Stand and we are always allowed to pass by there. This time they didn't, they would not give me a proper answer as well for the reason of the blockade.
