' This is the big one for Cardiff City & many City fans '

For me and many older City Fans the Worzels v Cardiff City at Ashton Gate was our local derby game in the 70s and 80's and would be a hostile atmosphere from both sets of fans.
It has been made a 12pm kick off on Police advice,

So to me this is our biggest away game of the season and hopefully by far the best atmosphere :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

What also makes this match even more exciting is that a win could put Cardiff in the play-offs,but a win could also help keep Bristol City away from the bottom three of the Championship.

Cardiff City have sold the 1,400 tickets we were given, but could of sold double the amount such has been the interest by Cardiff fans.

Our away support this has been the worst for over 10 years with an average of just 632 City fans attending away games, so this just shows even with a 12pm kick off, playing the Worzels away means a lot to Cardiff fans.

Severnside derby is exactly what Cardiff City need to kick on in their play-offs bid

It will be a cup final, if you like says Blake

Blakey says manager Russell Slade has to get into the heads of his players as they bid to record back-to-back wins for only the second time this season

The Severnside derby between Cardiff City and Bristol City is usually a feisty affairThe Severnside derby between Cardiff City and Bristol City is usually a feisty affair
The Severnside derby is going to be a right ding-dong battle and, for me, it is just the type of game Cardiff City need next.

The victory over Preston on Saturday was welcome, of course, and it re-emphasised just how strong the Bluebirds have been in the Welsh capital this season.

They have only lost once in front of their own fans all term and that was against Hull in September. It has been a good run of home form, for sure, even if there have been a few too many disappointing draws in that run. It is certainly the biggest factor in keeping them in the play-off hunt this term despite their inconsistencies.

The win over Preston moved them into seventh, with just a three-point gap to Sheffield Wednesday in sixth. We've said it so often this campaign, about the Bluebirds needing to kick on, but this time they really need to find that little bit extra.

It is frustrating because the ability is there. Over the next four or five games I would just love to see an eight or nine-point swing in Cardiff's favour. Sure, you are reliant on the likes of Wednesday stumbling, but it's a game of poker up there right now and at some point someone is going to fold.

I'd like to see Russell Slade's men not only push into the top six, but to try and get a little cushion of points in there. You do not want the games ticking down and the pressure growing on you. You do not want to get to the last two games and have a point keeping you in the play-offs. Of course, you might take that, and the Bluebirds do have the capabilities to handle such pressure, but I would like to see them firmly in that top six come crunch time, to be honest.

But I do believe a good old derby game is just what the Bluebirds need when it comes to building on the Preston win and finally getting some kind of run together.

It's going to be a proper clash this weekend and, with Cardiff having sold out their away allocation, there should be a great atmosphere at Ashton Gate.

It's going to be a battle and the Bluebirds are going to need to go out there and fight fire with fire. Bristol City have picked up a bit recently under new manager Lee Johnson, but in a derby match form can go out the window and that can play into Cardiff's hands this weekend.

They've often struggled to follow up wins when they have faced sides lower in the table, but that shouldn't happen at Ashton Gate.

It will be a cup final, if you like, and the Bluebirds certainly have the talent to come out as winners. What they are going to need, though, is the right mental attitude going into the clash and that is where Slade and his staff will earn their money this week in training.

The manager is going to have to try to get into the heads of his players this week. To build up the fact that it is a local derby and that bragging rights are at stake.

Training this week for Cardiff should not really be about working on things on the pitch, but about psychologically and mentally preparing the players for the Severnside derby.

I'm expecting a tight game at Ashton Gate and one that could actually be won in the last 10 or 15 minutes, so the Bluebirds are going to have to be prepared to go the distance and that is as much about mental endurance as anything else.

One thing I would say, though, is that I don't want the Cardiff players to get too hung up about getting back-to-back wins either. It is, of course, something they have only managed once this season, back in September, and it has been one of the big reasons why they have found themselves playing catch-up most of the time.

The problem with something like that is, if Cardiff do win at Bristol City there is a tendency to relax, to say: 'Phew, we've got that monkey off our backs'.

Cardiff need to go on a run, not worry about back-to-back wins. That would be a start, but things have to now build from there.

The red-hot atmosphere of Ashton Gate on the weekend should be the perfect place to get the ball rolling.

Always my favourite, along with Rovers...
Was great at Ashton Gate when we drew 0.0 to reach the play off final, think they brought onto the pitch at half that that bloke from Black adder, Baldrick, he tried to get the crowd going, but every chant he started the city fans outsung them... Brilliant.

The Bristol games were always special as they brought the England vs Wales factor into it as well. Strange I spend a lot of my time in Bristol these days and it is actually a really great place. I spend my time mainly in the North of Bristol (Rovers territory) and they hate City with a passion.

I often drive passed Aston Gate and the new stands are going up fast. Couldn't get a ticket for this one but hopefully if we play them in the FA Cup next season (of course we'll be in the PL) then the increased capacity should allow me to go.
