New Newport County boss Terry Butcher is to turn to former Cardiff City manager Russell Osman to be his assistant at the Exiles.
Butcher and Osman were former teammates together for Ispwich and England.
Osman most recently worked at Ipswich Town’s academy, but left as their under-18 coach in August 2013.
He was at Rodney Parade on the weekend to watch as the Exiles finished their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Oxford United. It saw Newport end their League Two campaign in ninth place.
Butcher will now take over from the departing Jimmy Dack and looks set to have 56-year-old Osman at his side.
Osman finished his distinguished player career with a brief stint as a Cardiff player.
He took over as manager in the Welsh capital in November 1996 and over little more than a year he took charge of 67 Bluebirds games. Osman was also manager at Bristol City and had caretaker spells in charge at Plymouth and Bristol Rovers.
Meanwhile Butcher’s first action at Newport has been to sign up teenager Kieran Parselle on his first professional contract. The 18-year-old midfielder made 18 appearances for the County youth side and also appeared on the Exiles first team bench twice during the last campaign.
