' LATEST ON CARDIFF TARGET ROBERT HUTH '

The Bluebirds boss has enquired about a loan deal for 6ft 3ins German international defender Robert Huth at Stoke.

Stoke are prepared to let Huth out on loan, but will want a substantial part of his Premier League wages to be paid by his new club.

Huth, though, is keen to stay in the Premier and is unlikely to be rushed into an early decision this week.

He has, though, played scarcely any Premier League matches since November 2013 after suffering a knee ligament injury

Slade could see Huth, who is not in manager Mark Hughes’ plans at Stoke, as an ideal partner for Bruno Manga, currently on his way back from the Africa Cup of Nations, in the quest to ensure City have a solid back five unit.

Huth and Manga could be playing alongside each other as early as this Saturday against Derby County at home if all goes well.

Talks continue with Stoke about Huth, who has played only three minutes of Premier League football for Stoke this season, while Manga is on his way back to South Wales after Gabon lost 2-0 against Equatorial Guinea.

Cardiff are also keen on a midfield player currently with a Premier League club, while Slade wants to sign a striker now that Adam Le Fondre has joined Bolton on loan.

This sounds more promising!

Would be keen to know who the midfielder is?

Sounds promising, but I'd be happy with Connolly and Manga at the back, and sign a winger instead of Huth

Hugh would smash the Championship. He is physical and obviously his height will make him an asset at set pieces. If he can be tempted, this may be worth a punt. Should be able to afford it after hacking back the squad. :bluescarf:

If he came to Cardiff City, would his name have to be changed to Robert Hoof?

Cardiff City look set to miss out on Stoke City's former Chelsea defender Robert Huth

Giant German defender Robert Huth had been top of Russell Slade's Cardiff City shopping list but now it appears other Premier League clubs are scrapping it out for his signature

Cardiff City look set to miss out on their bid to sign Stoke City defender Robert Huth.

Sources close to the club confirmed yesterday that the German international defender was at the top of Russell Slade's shopping list and an offer had been made to the Potters.

The Bluebirds boss had hoped Huth's lack of Premier League playing time could land him a bargain buy or even a loan move for a player who has played 19 times for the current world champions.

But WalesOnline understands there are three Premier League teams circling around the former Chelsea centre back who is keen to stay in the top flight.

Slade is unlikely to move for another central defender if he misses out on his top target because he already has Bruno Manga, Ben Turner, Sean Morrison, Matt Connolly and Danny Gabbidon in his squad, with the former now due back from Africa Cup of Nations duty.

The under-fire manager had hoped Huth’s experience would make his back five more solid but now he would only make a move if a player of similar stature and ability becomes available on loan or in budget.
