" Peter Whittingham and Craig Bellamy "

Craig Bellamy and Peter Whittingham are locked in a battle to take over the Cardiff City captaincy on Saturday.

Skipper Mark Hudson, who has been ever-present this term, will sit out the home clash with Peterborough after being booked for a fifth time in City’s 4-1 win at Blackburn on Friday.

Taking over the captain’s armband looks a straight fight between Bellamy and Whittingham, though Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay will delay his decision until later this week.

“I won’t rush into that one and will wait a few more days before deciding,” said Mackay. “Losing Mark for the Peterborough game is a massive blow.

“He has been captain fantastic since day one of my time in Cardiff. He leads by example, scored another goal at Blackburn and had to be brave when the home team pumped high balls into our penalty area.”

Bellamy, the former captain of Wales, led the side during Dave Jones’ final campaign in charge of City two seasons ago. But Hudson has worn the armband since Mackay took charge, retaining the armband even when Bellamy returned to the clubfrom Liverpool last summer.

Bellamy was back to his brilliant best in the Blackburn rout, scoring one and hitting the crossbar and generally being instrumental in Cardiff attacks all night. The veteran leads by example anyway, so Mackay might hand the armband to playmaker Whittingham in the heat of the midfield battle.

With Hudson absent against bottom-placed Peterborough, Kevin McNaughton is set to be recalled at right-back with Matthew Connolly joining Ben Turner at the heart of the defence.

Jordon Mutch will be available after serving a one-match suspension and Tommy Smith could also be back in the equation.

Smith has not featured since tearing a hamstring in the 2-1 victory over Watford on October 23.

“He is back with the main group having made good progress while working with our physio department last week,” confirmed Mackay.

“We will assess him again over the next few days, but he is certainly close.”

Bellamy for me. Done it before.

More importantly, Whitts is too important to us to be given the extra responsibility of Captaincy which may affect his game.

Captaincy won't affect Bellamy's game. He'll also be able to (officially) get in the ref's year!!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Whitts far to quiet to be captain IMO

Bellamy is a gobby c**t

But Bellers quiet as of late with his mind not 100% on the football with his divorce going through so for me it would be neither. I would have HH as Captain. All the experience and a true warrior. :ayatollah:

I would think Bellers is a natural leader, and wont be afraid of shouting hand having a go at people.
BUT! in some cases ,that may upset a few players, but we cant put bellers down for his we must win attitude.
Whitts for me works hard in spasms, but is far to silent to lead the squad, there is no argument that Whitts is a good player ,but a Captain needs a little more than that. So Bellers for me ,and I will just hope he dont go over the top. We have all heard how he inspires the young guys in training ,lets see how he does it under pressure in a real game.

WE want eleven captains out there, each one taking responsability and encouraging each other to ensure that we continue to dominate the opposition, my choice of one is Bellamy, he leads by example and is driven to get the best performance that he can give, when playing; the perfect role model, he is consistent with his effort and applys himself all of the time.

And he has calmed himself down, the responsability would be good for him.

Bellamy - not even a decision for me

Out of those two, Bellamy, he's a captain and done it before and is the most determined person out there.

But why not throw McNaughton into the fray? He's captained us before?
