You call that a derby????

Sun Dec 09, 2012 7:12 pm

That ain't no derby!! South Wales derby is a real derby!!! The English f.a will not want 2 welsh teams in the English premier league!!! Our ref had a coin in his head never mind a player!!! Although I don't agree with such violence I want to state and confirm that Cardiff v Swansea is the most fierce derby of them all!! What derby has to kick off at 11am on a Sunday morning? With all pubs closed? What derby bans the sale of alcohol within-in a large radius from the ground? I tell you what derby! It's the South Wales derby!!!

Half of these so called big teams have never experienced a " real derby" police escort all along the m4? Games being played behind closed doors? Don't make me laugh with one man city fan on the pitch with 1 coin bouncing of rios head!!! One day the prem will see a real derby and the English will hate it!!

It's coming!!! Soon the world will see

And this is why we have such restrictions.

I hope that IF we do go up this year that the derby has the best atmoshpere but thats it. violence has no place in football anymore

The south Wales derby has the potential to become Huge in the premier league. It would be a very unique derby.

Re: You call that a derby????

We should just be automatically in the Premiership anyway IMO.

18 English clubs who can get relegated.
2 Welsh clubs who can't get relegated.

The reason for this is that the money generated in Wales will help the Welsh economy, the FA can capitalise on the Welsh derby in the same sense the Scots do with Celtic and Rangers.

People will moan that it is unfair but we'll also be exempt from parachute payments.

I think the FA are missing a massive one with this.

The money they could make off.

Man Utd vs Man City
Liverpool vs Everton
Liverpool vs Man Utd
Arsenal vs Spurs
Arsenal vs Chelsea
Chelsea vs Spurs
West Ham vs Spurs
West Ham vs Arsenal
West Ham vs Chelsea
Cardiff vs Swansea
Newcastle vs Sunderland
West Brom vs Villa

Thats 12 games per season of derbies or fiercely contested games.
Thats 24 when you include the reverse fixtures.

The money that could be made would be astronomical if they had their heads screwed on and fans around the world would tune in to see the South Wales derby. Sky also need to put more emphasis on derbies like ESPN do. They seem to mention its a derby but rarely, unless its United vs City or Liverpool vs Everton emphasise the importance of the fixture, the history etc.

Yes let's get away from all that, maybe refs will then give us more decisions during the rest of the season

Football is a money game and the FA/FAW/Sky would make far more money if the Welsh derby was showcased in the Premiership live on TV every season.

nah, an extra two games a season, sure it would be good for tv companies, but in worldwide terms it isnt big enough to have us both in a super league with no relegation

I don't particularly like the idea of violence or condone it (although it doesn't bother me if it does happen as it's interesting) but I'd love to see a SW Derby in the Prem to see how raucous an intimidating the atmosphere would be. Would surely show what we're made of :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

if all the restrictions were taken away from our derby, I could honestly see it being total carnage  I just could not see a south wales derby passing off without major trouble. We can't even contain the hatred at the horse racing ffs so there's no chance of it being trouble free without all the restrictions imo

Regulated? Relegated buddy.

Also, its been proposed by many businessmen and owners of clubs as well as foreign fans who want to see the best games and the most competitive. Us and Swansea are the two biggest teams in Wales, they will want to see such a derby and it makes sense for it to happen, if there ever was a Premiership with no relegation to add us both so that the FA and Sky can maximise profits from such a derby.

Football is a business and businesses love profit and having games people are interested in on constantly will keep viewing figures high.

As someone else said before, the Premiership is more of a tourist attraction these days and money is the evil that has killed it. Thats just the way it is in modern times so we either just get on with it or moan about it with no real voice. Those with money have the power.

We really are deluded if we think the South Wales derby comes close to atmospheres in other derbies. FFS we always spout this drivel on here about our derby being the best of them all. Iv'e been to all the derby matches in both the new stadiums and the atmosphere has been tragic in both.

Do not compare to NP and the Vetch, face facts.

Got to say our derby has allways been hostile.
Our fans cant even get on to support wales.
Its the only game were away fans were bannd frome traveling.
And if ristrictions were to be lifted and fans could travel as they pleased it would be like the 80s again.
There were allways massive problems when we both use to get small crowds now we both have much bigger fan base it would be even worst.
f**k nows how the ob would have coped had we both got to the final in the play offs.

In our times maybe, but apparently it used to be quite an occasion, and fans of both teams would support each other on alternate weekends when travelling to away matches wasn't as convenient as it is now...

I've often wondered what sparked it off and when?
