Henning Berg is out to break his Ewood Park duck in tonight’s Championship clash with Cardiff City.
He is still waiting for a first home win as Blackburn Rovers boss, but insists: “Tonight could be the night!”
The Bluebirds travel to the north of England for a match in front of the live Sky Sports cameras, having slipped up in their three matches at Ewood since Berg was appointed as manager.
A draw against Birmingham was followed by back-to-back home losses against Millwall and Bolton, but the Norwegian believes their displays merited more points than they picked up.
“Tonight we are playing league leaders Cardiff,” says Berg. “They have set the standard this season and it will be a good test for us.
“We have some very good young players and this evening they will play against the best team in this division. It will be interesting to see how they cope with that.
“But we are at home, we are looking to play well and looking to win the game.
“Our aim is to impose ourselves on Cardiff, even though they are the league leaders.
“We have played some good teams at home, Millwall were on a great run, we have played Bolton, so it’s not like we are going to sit back and watch what Cardiff are doing.
“We could easily have had far better results from the three home matches since I became manager.
“Based on performances, chances for and against, the Millwall game could have easily gone our way. Millwall had some fantastic shooting to win the game.
“We had more chances and shots on goal than them overall, even though at times maybe they played a little higher level in their best periods of the game.
“Bolton started the game much better than us and we conceded a sloppy first goal.
“Then they scored from a free-kick, we got one back and were close to getting another back. On another day with the chances we had, we could have got a result.
“We had more shots on goal than Bolton but still didn’t win. That can happen, Birmingham was the same.
“In football this can happen, you can go through spells where you don’t play well and you win games.
“That is possible as well. Tonight we set out to win against Cardiff City. That is our only focus.”
