CITY TARGET MORE AWAY DAY SUCCESS

Tue Nov 27, 2012 7:49 am

CARDIFF CITY skipper Mark Hudson has called for the Bluebirds to use their Barnsley win as an away-day launchpad.

The Bluebirds brought to an end a three-match losing streak by winning 2-1 at Oakwell on Saturday and went top of the Championship into the bargain.

They are on the road again tonight against a Derby side who have lost only once in the league at home all season – but Hudson feels City are ready for take-off on their travels.

“It wasn’t pretty at Barnsley, but after the away form we had it was exactly what we needed,” said the 30-year-old.

“That was really what we have been trying to do all season, get in front away and hold onto it.

“We needed the three points and we got them, we knew we had to get something there. We started very positively and when they scored at the end we showed good fighting spirit.

“I think maybe a bit of that had come from those good wins over Hull and Middlesbrough at home previously. Now we need to use Barnsley as a confidence boost and a bit of a launchpad away from home, starting at Derby.”

Malky Mackay’s men know they will face a tough test from Nigel Clough’s Derby who beat Birmingham 3-2 at home on Saturday.

“We watched some of that game as it was the late kick-off,” added Hudson, pictured.

“They have got goals in them and are very positive going forward.

“They have proved very good at home, but we need to go there and pick something up.

“We believe we have got enough about us to go and do that and we are feeling very confident too.”

Andrew Taylor hopes to return at left-back for the suspended Simon Lappin and Ben Turner, Don Cowie and Kevin McNaughton are also close to full fitness again.

But Derby might come too soon for them, with the visit of Dave Jones’ Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday perhaps being more realistic for the trio.
