Jordan Mutch 'Im on my way back'

JORDON MUTCH has revealed how he cushioned the blow of his Cardiff City injury worries to end a two-month lay-off.

Midfielder Mutch had been left frustrated on the sidelines since the middle of September after a nerve problem in his foot interrupted his impressive start to life as a Bluebird.

But, ahead of the weekend Championship clash at Barnsley, he underlined his return to fitness on Tuesday night when he played more than an hour for Cardiff’s development side in their 4-0 win over Colchester, scoring for good measure.

Yet his recovery has only come after discovering that new insoles to correct the way he hits the ground with his foot was the only way to solve a problem that tested the patience of both the player and manager Malky Mackay.


“It was a bit tricky to solve but the nerve was inflamed and it was quite painful and irritating so we needed to try and find a way to sort it out,” said Mutch, the 20-year-old a £2m summer signing from Birmingham.

“And, in the end, it was changing my insoles that really helped because it took the pressure off a certain area.

“It’s a bit of support underneath the foot to make sure I hit the ground properly and the pressure away from the outside of the foot.

“It’s nothing major, but it’s worked well and I feel fine with it and hopefully I can show exactly that in the next couple of days.

“I had to make sure I was right with it and I was thankful to be able to get back out on a pitch and have an hour to get some fitness back.

“But I managed 60 minutes with no problems and I’ll be back into training putting myself out there to be selected. I’d hope to be part of things but if it happens, it happens.

“But I felt fine after the game in midweek, I’m looking to get fitter and hopefully I could be involved in some way on Saturday and hopefully our luck can change away from home.”

seriously though it will be great to have mutchy back,i really feel we need him in that midfield ,our woeful away performances especially when our midfield has been overrrun have shown a weakness that need to be sorted

Have to agree with most of that. He is key to our team, and we would be top now if he had been playing, no doubt in my mind.

I have inflamed my tendon in my shin through lace bite playing ice hockey, it can be agony and im guessing its similar to what Mutch had. IMO it was worse then the pain women feel during labor
