Michael Chopra - Such a waste of talent.

Fri Oct 26, 2012 11:51 am

He could have gone onto big things after us (first time) if he knuckled down and worked for it. One of the most natural goal scorers I have had the pleasure to witness so far in my life.

He could score a goal out of nothing if he worked for it, stayed in shape and never became a gambling addict earlier in his career there is no doubt in my mind he would be an England international now. When he played for us early in his career he could score from outside the box and is one of the best poachers I have ever witness play.

He could have gone onto much bigger things but he chose to waste his talent - Shame.

agree, but unfortunately i cant see him playing top level football or any at all for much longer.

Agree with both above. Career could be coming to an end.

What happens when he has no money to gamble?

Wasted talent as he was a great goal scorer.

Unless youve suffered a gambling addiction yourself then please be quiet. Do you think he enjoys blowing all his money down the bookies? Do you?

Seriously..shut up. Point is gambling is a fools game. If any of us were in his situation we wouldn't blow it all, like he has.

I think he does quite enjoy blowing his money, he's only started moaning since he has no money left to gamble..

My wrong what? You mean "you're" wrong. Stop being a tw@t and lighten up. Don't be defending Chopra when he clearly is beyond redemption, the little tosser.

Stop talking crap. Theres people on far less money than him, minimum wage, who have blown it all.

Him blowing all his wages is no different to me blowing all mine. Just because hes on more money shouldnt make him less weak willed.

The only thing you are right about is gambling is a mugs game. The rest you are talking BOLLOCKS.

Polo, I'll never have a halo, ya fecker. Chopra's had many chances to sort it out - certainly more than Leon Jeanne had - and he hasn't. As with any addict, it takes some effort from the individual to turn things around, regardless of how much support they have - and he's had more support than the average addict, let's be honest.

Not sure why you feel the need to defend him, unless you're playing Devil's advocate for the umpteenth time.

The reason I defend Chopra is because I am addicted to gambling myself its not simple to just to stop. I could stop for 30 days and then blow a grand when i fall off the wagon.

I have had countless chances from my missus, and even when on my last chance ive blown a months wages on more than once occasion.

Am i mug. YES. Do I enjoy losing that money and letting people down. Absolutely NOT. I hate myself for it.

But cos Chopra earns 20k a week or whatever it is its open season on him from people who dont understand how hard it is to kick.

Not being funny I have been addicted in the past to many things. It's not hard to stop especially in your case. Think about the ones you love and what you're doing to them.

This is going to sound harsh, if you don't stop you're going to lose them! Just say NO.

The point I'm making, though (and I think other people are), is that he's had more help and still goes on a self-destruct mission. I've never been an addict, so I can't possibly fully understand, admittedly, but he's going to finish his career soon and will look back with serious regret. Self-discipline plays a part in every addict's battle.

Yes of course he will look back and have regrets Im not disputing that but he wont be the first person rehab doesnt work for, and he wont be the last.

To say he "Enjoys" losing that amount of money is ridiculous, I bet he feels like absolute shit, for days on end, and will probably never get over the amount of money he lost.

Thats probably why he keeps on gambling because in that stupid, twisted, addicted brain he thinks he can go on a run and win it all back.

True. He needs some mates to call him a C U N T and shake him out of it, unless he's already lost all of his mates because of his addiction.

Gambling is an addiction yes. Do I feel sorry for him not really. Is he wasting his talent, massively!

Re: Michael Chopra - Such a waste of talent.

Fri Oct 26, 2012 2:01 pm

A very close mate of mine. Used to gamble in casinos. He had everything. Nice car, huge house, family etc. he became addicted to the life style Nd gambling. I'd finish work at midnight drive him to Bristol in his flash car. He'd give me 100 for doing it. Free night for me. He would start with 5k a night if he doubled it he'd leave. If he lost it he'd chase.
He now is divorced diesnt see his kids and has a dead end job with a shit house.
My point being he never saw it as a problem until it was to late. Never got help.
Maybe I should of said no, but I was a lot younger than him and could double my salary.
So it is an addiction and one he will never recover from as he's lost everything. But he never had chopras help!

I would hate to be addicted to anything, I have been on the verge of becoming a drug addict and know how hard it is to stop something. Feel sorry for chopra, too much money is the blame in my opinion, I could be wrong

so then you gamble, or go out

Gambling as an addiction does not get the recognition it deserves. People think it is very easy just to "stop" and say no. Say no to what? Everywhere you got your are bombarded with adverts and on every street there are at least two bookies. The machines in the bookies need to be BANNED. They are poisonous and far to accessible. Gambling on the football and the horses is nothing like as bad as shoving your money down a machine hoping of a return.

I do feel sorry for Chopra and it's quite remarkable that he's managed to play at a good level all this time. I'd take him back at the City in a heartbeat.
